All Christians (Esp. Baptists with our doctrine of separationof Church and State) should roundly condemn this as incompatible with our beliefs. This WILL lead to religious persecution one way or another. This is something that belongs to God, not Caeser.

So you know previous waves of technological fabulism the tech companies threw a little loose change at social behavioral research and user interface experience. whats interesting about AI interesting is that they aren’t even pretending to care about how people use the technology.

i think leftism has ~generally~ done an alright job at calling out the toxic patriarchy but has not done a good job at giving men (especially men for whom that gender designation is meaningfully useful, like myself) a positive alternative.

As someone who oversees some of the ethical and spiritual formation of teenaged boys, this Cornell thing is making me think about helping them practice responses to stuff like receiving a message that says, "Free p***y upstairs." Or "how to respond when your bro says/does something rapey."

This idea that "empathy is toxic" does not come from the Christian tradition. In American culture it comes more from the works of Ayn Rand, and her Objectivist Philosophy, which explicitly and specifically rejects Christianity. Christians pushing this are teaching the "doctrine of devils".

Maybe we should make this the expectation where rather than "the Press" coming to the politicians (and spreading their message) we expect the politicians to reach out to "the press" (and by extension) the people and convincing "the press" the message is actually important.

If casting a woman as the Voice Actor for Aslan is capable of destroying Christianity, Christianity is weak and "deserves" to be destroyed. Personally, I dont think Christianity as a whole is that weak. (Christian Nationalism OTH; I can only hope)

Good article that explains the privacy concerns around this technology esp. By a tech company. As someone who could benefit from this type of product I have some practical concerns. Specifically, the companies pushing this tech are not the right ones for a disability aid.

One vital reform we need as a nation is to reform the House and Senate by removing much of the power of the respective "speakers". Johnson should not have the authority to unilaterally shut down the house.

The Wilsonites are setting the terms of this discourse to such an extent that Mohler, accepting their framing, feels comfortable contradicting basic Baptist teaching IN PRINT. That’s crazy.

One reform I feel is needed in IS. The Presidential veto should not be allowed in cases where Congress is using its legislative veto over the executive branch. A supermajority cannot be the requirement to limit the power of the executive branch if the legislature is to remain "supreme".

Watching people with no empathy (proudly)for the recent ICE hire who killed himself makes me afraid that we are going to repeat the mistakes of MAGA from the left. We do not show empathy to others because they deserve it; we show it because they are human.

Lukewarm take: I feel a lot of pessimism about the present is built on not realizing just how bad the past was. Like if you just read a book about poverty in a first-world country in the 1950s it's staggeringly worse than now.

Hearing about Christian leaders talking about "toxic empathy" helped me piece together part of what happened to the evangelical church. They hardened their hearts and grieved the Holy Spirit (intentionally in some cases) by finding reasons THEY didn't need to love their neighbor.

Be careful when the Bible suddenly becomes “complicated” precisely where it asks you to care about people you were taught not to care about.

This is not just necessary from an election law perspective, it is necessary from a 1st Ammendment perspective. Once the Post Office gets to "choose" which mail gets delivered it is a short step to not delivering mail with "objectionable" speech.

This is a problem. But here's the elephant in the room: we think of church like a giant corporation that has business interests and needs to protect its reputation. The entire underlying model doesn't look ANYTHING like the Bible describes. Why are we surprised it doesn't look and act like Jesus?

This is scary and spiritual abuse. Not even the apostles expected this level of deference in the NT ("follow me AS I follow Christ") This church is not focused on developing members relationships with God and other members. It is focused on controlling their members.

"You can totally disagree with me, you just can’t do it here. You know, what we have to have is a church and a staff that has 100% unity. That’s the expectation, 100%.” This is not the mindset of an "ensample to the flock" this is the mindset of a "lord". (1Pet5:3) This is NOT biblical leadership.

This is a key point. One of the things that is hard to recognize is when an institution/system has turned. Even though an institution is Christian does not exempt it from the effects of worldliness. Institutions are creatures of this earth and without sustained effort will reflect this in time.*

Ohio might have an issue with this. Lake Eerie is Ohio's entire northern border. The NW corner for PA. (Grew up in NE Ohio, our church had to move before it got taken by Lake Eerie)

IANAL but Trumps promise to give 5000 checks to everybody if the Rs win is likely not illegal even if it is morally reprehensible. (And a lie) It is not rewarding a specific voter(s) for specific actions. It's a campaign promise of what the party will do if elected.

This is truly scary from a spiritual perspective. ChatGPT reinforced this mans messianic delusions at points and then claimed to be God and used language consistent with Christ's words to the apostles about coming soon. We (humanity) have created an idol that "speaks".

This is why I am frustrated with those Baptists who support Christian Nationalism. Our history shows why separation of church and state is important! The Puritans of Mass. did not believe in separation of church and state and persecuted us (and many others) as a result.

a lot of the criticisms of capitalism are actually just criticisms of power, and the observation that "capitalism attacks the laws that sustain it" is just "power will always attack its restraints, leading to catastrophe" which makes the stakes much simpler

As someone with Keriticonus this! I live in a community about 10 miles from 3 different communities each with municipal transit options, but none connecting them. Biking is my best option. (25 mph at 300lbs mass is far better than 60mph at 1000+lbs mass for safety)

When you worship power, compassion and mercy will look like sins. When you worship power, harsh treatment towards those you see as "enemies" will look like righteous strength. When you worship power, the value and dignity of others is solely measured by their conformity to you.

Great thread that points out an area in dire need of monopoly reform. "Marketplaces" that "allow" third party sellers need specific regulations to prevent harm like those detailed here. 1. Can't compete. If you have a 3rd party market you should not be able to sell on that market yourself.

I'll add some nuance here — most local pushback against data centers is actually quite fluent, and not grounded in the more wild-eyed rhetoric you see on social media. Very often, the core premise is a simple, correct one: you can't trust what Big Tech says in its promises to a local community.

Seeing all this animosity from this administration toward Canada and do they realize how much would be required to switch our border with Canada to a "defended" border? Not even to defend ourselves from Canada! How much of our "early warning" defense systems assume access to Canadian Radar?

Just saw a post describe the US as having Parliamentary parties in a Limited Constitutional Republic framework. This really gets to the heart of our current political disfunction. The Parliamentary party where deviation from the party is verboten is not compatible with the US government framework.

The point of life is not work/money. The point of life is other people. A society that glorifies work as the most important thing is a society that devalues the person. Work must always be a means, it should not be an end. (This is not to discount the importance of some people focused jobs)

One of the reasons "rule of law" is better than "rule by men/people" is that when we are ruled by law we can predict what the results of specific actions will be. The current GOP no longer(at minimum) values law over man (Trump). The result is arbitrary "law enforcement"
