Someone with a Godly heart may have awful doctrine but amazing praxis; and someone whose doctrine is pristine can still have a reprobate heart and awful praxis. A bad heart can only be fixed by God not by theology. Bad theology on the other hand can be fixed in one with a Godly heart.

Even though I'm not a Calvinist, I feel this is unfair to most of them. CN has strong adherents in Pentacostal circles as well for example. Trying to pin this error on theology/doctrine is inaccurate imo. This is more an issue of a "bad/hard/stony heart"; a lack of compassion and love for others.

Three years since the recent genocide of Gaza began. In Ramah a voice is heard, crying and weeping loudly. Rachel mourns for her children and refuses to be comforted, because they are dead. —Jeremiah 31:15 📸: Ahmad Hasaballah, The Holy Mother of Gaza

(Personally prefer the term freedom of concience over religious liberty for this reason. When it comes to what counts as a "religious" belief, society should have a very broad definition. A strongly held moral conviction is a "religious belief" no matter how one comes to that conviction.)

My libertarian side says the govt should not license marriage (which has never been used for good) only recognize it for contractual purposes. If 2 people declare they are a family unit, so be it; they are a family unit. My religious beliefs dont matter for them. (And vice versa)

Marriage (esp. What marriage means and who can partake) is by its nature a religious belief and the govt should not be determining which marriages are "valid" (Forced marriages are an exception which includes underage) A common way to persecute is to deny the validity of another faiths marriages.

I disagree strongly with Alito, this is not how religious liberty works imo. If the belief that gay marriage is sinful is protected by religious freedom (it is) then so is the belief that gay marriage is not sinful. This is true for all of the "culture wars". Both "sides" are "religious" beliefs.

When used to end discussion it is just a different form of nihilism/fatalism. This is a great opportunity to use the Socratic method of teaching. Yes, and?

Treating a statistical calculation as if it is thinking is dangerous in my view because it leads people to believe it can be an authority on information or function as a rules engine. It can't do those things, and when those boundaries are crossed, people are going to end up hurt.

This is one of the many reasons I will not use "smart glasses" from Big Tech for my visual disability. I cannot trust them to maintain their products so will not allow myself to become reliant on one as a disability aid.

This reason for the death penalty; to prevent the murderer from murdering again is basically a society level lethal self-defence argument. It is a "necessary evil" to prevent further death.

Once they are famous they begin to equate their fame with God's glory and thus begin to see their success as required for God to succeed. (Same thing happens with institutions)
010
Charles Spargur @cspargur.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
Agreed. To become rich or famous often requires people to compromise their values in small ways (at first). This is because it often requires them to say "look at me" rather than "look at Christ". Which then slowly changes how they percieve themselves. (Before during or after achieving fame)

Charles Spargur @cspargur.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
Very rarely does someone become famous or rich without taking moral shortcuts. Even for those who do manage this very few of them are able to avoid being changed by their fame or riches.

"Depart from me to a place reserved for devils ye workers of iniquity, I never knew you" (not quite a quote but a paraphrase of multiple passages to those who fail to help others in need) Matt 7:23; Matt 25:41; Luke 13:27, etc

Plus that nation is specifically commanded not to put their trust in weapons of war such as chariots. That nation's defense was not to be through strength of the military but rather through faith in God.

All Christians (Esp. Baptists with our doctrine of separationof Church and State) should roundly condemn this as incompatible with our beliefs. This WILL lead to religious persecution one way or another. This is something that belongs to God, not Caeser.

I apologize if I came across as argumentative. I meant that to be more of a "YES, and" type of reply. I love the concept overall, and would like to see it even better.

For me it was Trumps administration that made me realize the opposite. Trump doesnt care about checks and balances at all. He just does what he wants. Checks and balances constrain good people not evil people. (This is still a good reason to have them! But also only to a certain extent)

More than 10% is needed because that would only dissuade if getting caught was assured. At +10% I'll gotten gain it is still a reasonable gamble to try as long as your chance of getting caught is less than a certain amt. 2X or higher ill gotten gain is likely necessary to properly dissuade.

So you know previous waves of technological fabulism the tech companies threw a little loose change at social behavioral research and user interface experience. whats interesting about AI interesting is that they aren’t even pretending to care about how people use the technology.

-Will they add new "features" that slowly but surely degrade their use as an aid? -Will they maintain the aid once they get "bored" and move to the new tech fad? -Will they change the UI w/o warning or testing? -What level of risk will they accept as "good enough"? Etc.

As someone with a disability that could benefit from AR technology (Low vision due to Keriticonus) I do not trust any of these companies to make disability aids. This is a great example of why. A few other q's. -Will they require the disabled to watch/listen to ads before their glasses work?

i think leftism has ~generally~ done an alright job at calling out the toxic patriarchy but has not done a good job at giving men (especially men for whom that gender designation is meaningfully useful, like myself) a positive alternative.

As someone who oversees some of the ethical and spiritual formation of teenaged boys, this Cornell thing is making me think about helping them practice responses to stuff like receiving a message that says, "Free p***y upstairs." Or "how to respond when your bro says/does something rapey."

This idea that "empathy is toxic" does not come from the Christian tradition. In American culture it comes more from the works of Ayn Rand, and her Objectivist Philosophy, which explicitly and specifically rejects Christianity. Christians pushing this are teaching the "doctrine of devils".

And structured clearly delineated tasks are often better served by more traditional computer programs. A well and intentionally designed program/database/excel sheet etc. is far superior to the AI workflow for things that specific workflow is designed for.

It is better to obey God than the man or man's laws. Unfortunately many Christians have been steeped in authoritarian leadership so much that they cannot even consider the idea that there are times we need to defy the authority or laws of our nation.

One of the least appreciated virtues amongst many Christians is epistemic humility. Being able to recognize that you could be wrong seems to run counter to faith in many people's eyes. But faith is not certainty in doctrine, but rather it is certainty in Christ.

The judiciary needs a law enforcement agency that solely answers to them. (Or LE needs to be outside the executive branch) Half the problem is the judge is likely trying to figure out who will enforce a ruling against this administration as it controls all federal LE.

This is why even though I took and enjoyed Greek in seminary I get very suspicious if I hear a pastor try to use it in a sermon. Most of the time it is used, as in this example, to redefine a word so that he doesnt have to deal with "contradictions" between how he views Christianity and the Bible.

Maybe we should make this the expectation where rather than "the Press" coming to the politicians (and spreading their message) we expect the politicians to reach out to "the press" (and by extension) the people and convincing "the press" the message is actually important.

4. State welfare. (Gleaning, tithes for the care of the widows, orphans, poor, etc.) 5. Trickery in business prohibited (false weights) 6. Quarantining communicable diseases. 7. Sanitation/protection of the environment. (Latrines required!) Etc. Yet they seem to focus only on the other laws.

Looking at the laws in Deut. and Lev. is quite instructive in this regard. 1. Year of Jubilee in which no debt lasts more than 6 years. 2. Minimal standing armies and weapons of war. 3. Strong negligent liability laws (Ox or other known dangerous animal, balconies without railings, pits, etc.)

I think that the second job of a pastor must not be one that has earthly power/authority. Whether as a govt agent/minister/politician or as a person wielding power from the shadows, earthly power is too great a temptation for one who is a spiritual leader. We cannot serve both God and Mammon.

Using communion as a means of division (by nationality here, by social class then) was the very sin Paul condemns when he warns us not to take communion "unworthily". Communion is a sacrament to bring people together. When done in a manner that creates division judgment is the likely result

I think even that is a fairly weak argument tbh. Just because a woman is the voice actor/actress for Aslan doesnt mean that Aslan is being portrayed as female (not that gender really matters here) in the movie. The released pictures show a maned lion.
010
Charles Spargur @cspargur.bsky.social · 19/09/2026
If casting a woman as the Voice Actor for Aslan is capable of destroying Christianity, Christianity is weak and "deserves" to be destroyed. Personally, I dont think Christianity as a whole is that weak. (Christian Nationalism OTH; I can only hope)

I cannot trust a major tech company on this for the following reasons: 1. Accuracy. If this is to become a disability aid it needs to be extremely accurate. 99.9999% level accuracy or higher. And if in doubt, it needs to fail obviously for the user. 2. Support. This needs decade plus support.
