shutting down frat houses won't end rape culture, but it will disorganize a lot of rapists, and i think that's probably worth doing if only to destabilize what is apparently an ecology of organizations that functionally exist to rape women per the whole "purpose of a system is what it does" insight.

Let this sink in. Cornell University refused to refund Jane Doe's tuition the semester she was raped. Without this money, she could not transfer to another school. Essentially, she was forced to stay on campus where she saw those seven rapists frequently. Eventually she dropped out of college.

Here’s the most incredible story you’ll read today. A small plane with four people aboard crashes in a field. Another pilot witnesses it. That pilot happens to be flying a bunch of skydivers. They offer to jump to assist, are given permission. The skydivers happen to be EMTs. Everyone survives.

Skydivers alert emergency crews, assist after plane crashes near East Troy airport
Four people were aboard the single-engine plane when it went down in a cornfield near Carvers School Road in East Troy at about 1:30 p.m.

for real though, conversations with coworkers about AI are forcing me to consider that when it comes to the work we do, I might as well be working alongside p-zombies. just a weird and terrifying absence of a consciousness that there is meaning to what we’re doing

The data also strongly suggests that campus rape is perpetrated by a small number of actors. Put differently, most men on campus don't rape, but the ones who do rape a lot of women. Getting rid of those guys would make campus way safer . psycnet.apa.org/record/2020-...

This is going to be a thread of AI greenwashing getting pumped out at New York Climate Week Here's one from today: Siemens, raking in MOUNTAINS of $$ from selling gas turbines to data centres (not mentioned) says: “we are racing to mitigate this as fast as possible" apnews.com/article/clim...
On the other hand, Eva Riesenhuber, the head of sustainability at the German automation company Siemens, and Evelyn Wang, vice president for energy and climate at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, said AI is too important to humanity and will help tackle climate change.

Data centers adding to climate and water problems “is not forever,” according to Wang, who told The Associated Press that data centers are five years away from being water neutral and about a decade away from no longer adding to planet-warming emissions.

Acknowledging these concerns, Riesenhuber said “we are racing to mitigate this as fast as possible because we are hooked on the intelligence, and we do need the intelligence to design the future that this planet needs.”a chart showing siemens gas turbine sales will add emissions the equivalent to pakistan

This is the key point, and it makes LLM output viewing into something of a Rorschach test. Your view of other people & their output is shown by how you see a similar but extruded output. It's like being unable/unwilling to tell the difference between a corporate crafted response and a human one.

Statistical extrapolation is fine as long as you're using it with the same exact factors. If you try to predict the future with past behaviors and change or ignore a factor, you get Hilary losing Wisconsin because she chose not to campaign.
