Digging thru family archives I found a treatise on labor law It includes: An industry that cannot pay a living wage as defined in the law becomes parasitical and is not an asset but a liability to society. It should not be allowed to exist at the expense of wages or be subsidized by a low wage.
Page from Labor Law publication containing the stated quote in the 2nd column.

Way too many people think all laughter indicates someone finds a thing funny. People also laugh when they’re startled in a not-unpleasant way or uncomfortable with a social situation where they don’t yet know how to safely respond. Or they’re being tickled. Probably for more reasons too.

My local pharmacist didn’t even ask. His only question for me was “which arm.” I made the appointment online, did the thing, that was it. I tend to space them out, so COVID is first, and I’ll top up on the flu shot when they do the clinics on campus because that’s slightly more convenient.

Biochemist Dr. Ida Stephens Owens mapped how human genes control drug metabolism. The first Black woman to earn a PhD from Duke (1967), she spent ~50 years at NIH. She identified the UGT1A gene complex, decoding how enzymes detoxify drugs & harmful toxins. She was born #OTD in 1939.🧵 #WomenInSTEM
A charming photograph of American biochemist Dr. Ida Stephens Owens (1939–2020), renowned for her groundbreaking research on drug-detoxifying enzymes and human genetics, posing in a laboratory setting. Standing from the waist up, she is turned slightly to the right, looking forward with a warm, confident smile that lights up her face. She has short, curly black hair and wears a delicate gold chain necklace with a small round pendant, and a ring on her finger. She is dressed in a casual, short-sleeved beige knit top. Her forearms rest on a surface in the foreground, with one hand loosely holding a pink folder or pamphlet. Behind her, a brightly illuminated laboratory reveals her research environment, featuring a tall shelf tightly packed with colorful textbooks, alongside structured racks holding assorted glass beakers and scientific equipment. The overall composition balances her approachable, dignified expression with the busy backdrop of her historic, decades-long career at the National Institutes of Health.

And if the way you fight against concentration camps is to yell at trans people to stop caring about their own personal safety? Literally go do anything else. Go protest an ICE facility. Go organize mutual aid for impacted communities. Go make whistle kits and go distribute them.

It's not about The Dignity Of Work. Unless you're very lucky, work is usually at best boring & at worst demeaning, painful & humiliating. If you've set up a system that says "You'd better work all day or you'll suffer destitution" & full-time workers are still destitute, the system is the problem.

For years, Harding University had a tradition of putting out an American flag for each victim of 9/11. My dad, who passed in August, led the push to collect and include flags representing the nationality of every person who died that day. It’s something I’m very proud of.
Since 2003, the American Studies Institute Distinguished Scholars Honors program has been involved in leading the Harding community in remembering the victims of the September I1, 2001 terrorist attack. The 9-ıı Never Forget memorial flag project began in 2010 when the ASI students decided to join in the national Never Forget project created by Young America's Foundation, honoring those who lost their lives in the attack. In zo1l, the Pi Sigma Alpha organization, under the faculty sponsorship of Dr. Mark Elrod, joined ASi students by honoring the international victims and the countries they represented, correctly reflecting the international impact the attack made. The two organizations have since made this a joint service project, symbolizing the common bond we all share as those who remember the lives that were lost on September 11, 2001United Kingdom flags, donated by the Searcy HS Beta Club (total victims, 67)Background, Philippines

TFW you’re looking at family ephemera and it’s pro-Union and pro-labor regulations. 1950, U of Iowa Econ prof writes ~ “Employers being terrible without oversight necessitates a larger government to provide oversight.” & “The world is changing, we must adapt to protect people over property.”
July 1950 Labor Law Journal

Efforts are made to avoid creating an authoritarian state or rule from the top.

It is recognized that self-control has failed to eradicate labor problems that jeopardize the safety of the economy and the economic
safety of workers;

The fundamental fact that emerges here is that as long as the interested parties, management and labor, either are unwilling or unable to solve their difficulties, the function of the government in labor relations will inevitably be enlarged.
