Stumbled across "Wuthering Heights Day" on the Rec and it was bloomin' marvellous. Rehearsals for the main event. Many happy "Kates" and a lovely day for it 😊❤️ Might dig out my red dress next year and join in. #Stratters

First up the mountain this morning and after quite a few days of fog and swirling freezing mists it was an absolute belter. #Austria

Bit of an epic 6 hour hike with sis in law and Mr C today. Didn’t intend for it to take that long but we were waylaid at a local hostelrie and let’s face it the best days are the ones you don’t plan. Anyway thank heavens for water butts with mugs just when you need them most 😊 #Austria

Morning. Another corker of a day. Blue sky and a whiff of Spring. Not great for the schnee but very good for the soul. #Austria

My favourite sight today was a snowboarder wearing an inflatable sumo wrestler suit. He shot past me at high speed and as my brain tried to compute what I'd witnessed I just sat down mid turn laughing loudly. Carnival. It's a strange beast.

Carnival week here. Bit hectic. Finding quiet spots away from the madding crowd. The “plank bench” a favourite stop even though there’s much less schnee than in January. Can’t fault the weather though. Glorious. #Austria

I love watching Dave Ryding tackle the slalom. Even more so when he absolutely smashes it and is in first place. For now. He deserves to keep that spot - oh, to have a knee action and still body as good as his. Holding my breath until the last skier has skied. #AlpineWorldChampionships

Cracking day off the beaten track to the village of a thousand wood stacks. Not a cloud in the sky. Enough schnee not to damage the planks. Birdsong, midday church bells, a lunch it will be hard to beat this year 😊

Made it to our bolthole for the next month. Bit of an epic drive but mustn’t moan too much about freezing rain and snow when we left our overnight stay near Frankfurt this morning as seems a lot of the UK also sampling that delight. Anyway it’s grand to be back in lovely Austria 😊

Not sure how the swans can see anything in the depths of the murky Avon but there must be something tasty down there. Much bottoming up on the river this morning. I do love seeing their little legs from this angle.

I also bumped into colleague of old @hammondweather.bsky.social round the corner from Marylebone Station which was a lovely brief encounter. Me heading home, he off to do the Late Shift on Radio 4. Bad Luck, John. I occasionally miss things about the old life but that isn't one of them!

Rarely out after dark these days but walking home from the station this evening I passed this splendid old street lamp near the church. Pressed all the wrong buttons for night mode on my iPhone camera and ended up with “stage light”. Seems fitting for #Stratters and I rather like the effect. 🤷‍♀️
Elaborate metal Victorian street lamp, 5 globes glowing in the dark against a backdrop of night time trees.

Today’s poem is called ‘Needles’.
This poem, entitled 'Needles' is presented in the form of a Christmas tree. These words form the shape of the tree:

I
wrote
a poem
in the shape
of a Christmas
tree but then forgot
to water it and only a few

days
later
there

And these words are distributed around the base of my poem 'tree' as if they've fallen off it:

were
words
all
over
the carpet

Every year I look forward to sharing my Advent Calendar online. My mother made this by hand in 1976 or 1977. There no Velcro or glue - everything is sewn onto the panels in her tiny little stitches. Day One is a very content looking felt cow with a tiny French knot for her eye. #AdventCalendar
A banner-type Adcent calendar with the first day turned over to reveal a black and white cow. A black and white cow made from pieces of felt sewn onto a gold felt background.

4 word e-mail from our lovely Austrian landlady a grand start to the day. "Ja, dat ist okay" it reads to my proposed plan changes to spend as much time as possible after all in the mountains. Not sure why we thought just one month would suffice. Anyway hurrah for accommodating landladies. Alles gut.

Freezing mist in #Stratters. All shades of grey and washed out brown and I love it like this.
River Avon at Stratford with a mist shrouded row of trees along the left hand bank and a solitary swan gliding towards the camera. Clopton Bridge brick arches spanning the River Avon. Misty, still, trees and lamp post just standing out. A bird on a post in the mist by the river. Bridge arches and boat house just visible behind through the mist. Some type of gull or tern.

Old, new and some smashing shadows. The river path is a bit soggy though. #Stratters
Part of the metal, rust coloured wall of The Other Place theatre (previously The Courtyard) which resembles a massive ship’s container and alongside it is an old red brick and black beamed cottage with leaded lattice windows. All under a clear blue sky. Stratford on Avon. Flooded path just along from the theatre in Stratford. You’d need waders at least or preferably a canoe.

Scary old night. Gusts pounding windows, rafters groaning, bins making a bid for freedom despite being trundled into a sheltered spot. Too empty to have any ballast. Now in the shed. And it's so warm outside, spookily warm. We got off lightly but should imagine there's been serious damage elsewhere.

Loved the Poldark novels in my youth and remember the Robin Ellis telly version of the '70s but for some reason didn't see the Aiden Turner remake. Now rectifying with a binge watch and it's wonderful. Although I'd forgotten how awful and repellent George Warleggan is. I hiss every time he appears.
