tbh i think this post is good (hear me out) it's good because it shows a lot of people basically genuinely seem to value the connections and reach they get on X over the overarching impact the site is having on discourse in general.

If we took a person from 2016 and gave them a Turing test using a modern LLM (instructed to simulate human conversational patterns), they would assume the LLM to be human 10 times out of 10, because it would be unfathomable that anything but a human could respond this way. 10 years, not 500.

The thing where people look at a calculator and look at ChatGPT and go "errr durrrr I can't see any difference" is insulting and stupid. It's like saying you can't tell the difference between a human being and an earthworm, since it's just cells and nerves meat.

The discourse on antisemitism in the country is such that Mike Rogers can simultaneously attack Abdul El-Sayed *as* antisemitic, as a scary foreign Muslim critic of Israel, and also *with* antisemitism, as a tool of the foreign-born Jewish puppeteer.
"LEAKED: Footage of Abdul El-Sayed fundraising last night in the California home of the far-left Soros family.

Abdul’s education was paid for by the Soros family and NOW they are funding his campaign to make him a U.S. Senator

The Soros family is funding Abdul because he will carry out their agenda of:

➡️ defunding the police
➡️ emptying prisons, and letting violent criminals & sex offenders back onto the streets
➡️ gender transition surgeries for minors
➡️ allowing illegals to vote in American elections

Abdul is too extreme for Michigan."

the super intelligence shit is a humiliation ritual for openAI and the sector more broadly, to see if they change their name I think. I unfortunately think it's actual in terms of regime politics relatively smart.

Biden's approach also didn't work. And prosecuting high profile criminals is good for its own sake of upholding the rule of law.

Substantial portions of conventional charity and philanthropy are extremely adverse to any kind of effort to impose rigor or ask in any way “is this working at all”. It’s not a strawman that they’re critiquing, at least in my personal experience.

ICE’s new tactic, witnessed repeatedly at the federal building in MN: when a detained immigrant makes a successful habeas petition, release the immigrant for a few steps outside the building… then tackle and re-arrest them, and claim the habeas petition has been honored and nullified

It annoys me greatly how easy it would have been for everything to be okay. Not perfect, not even great, but just 5/10 "I can slog through a day in undisturbed mediocrity without the Health Secretary declaring soap causes autism while the president literally shitposts about his war from the toilet."

Vought is breaking the law but he is not “going rogue.” At his confirmation hearings, Vought told Republicans he would do this and they voted for him anyway. If they want to stop him, they still can via impeachment. They won’t.

Explainer: What is 'Taiwan independence' and is Taiwan already independent?
China's Xi Jinping told President Donald Trump on Thursday that he hoped the US will adhere to the "correct position" of opposing Taiwan independence, and that the Chinese stance on "reunification" is clear-cut.

It's hilarious that Huang things not knowing his address, zip-code and phone number are a mark of how he is cognitively off-loading to technology and Klein doesn't seem to press him that what he's actually obviously doing is using the fact that he's rich to off-load onto other humans.

Two of the aides described one instance, in 2024, when Ms. Peltola was so frustrated that she swept stacks of papers on her desk into the air in a way that the two people independently likened to a scene from the political satire "Veep.

My hot (?) take(s) is that a failed AOC primary campaign is good for DSA and bad for the country, a failed AOC general campaign is bad for DSA and bad for the country, and an AOC presidency would be bad for DSA and good for the country.

The CW idea impeachment backfires isn't true. Nor is there any value in surrendering in advance on conviction. But there's a more important long-term consideration. Looking at all this and saying nope, we're not even going to say he should be removed, is locking in a message for future presidents.

I think the mistake here is again an assumption - pardon me, but a *racist* assumption - that only the United States (and Europe) has real agency and the rest of the world are mere passive recipients of American policy rather than active agents in their own story *who can decide to do bad things.*

It is possible - easy, even - to argue that the wars of the GWoT (especially the Iraq War) were foolish mistakes that damaged both regional stability and our strategic position without pretending that when the Taliban assassinates a village leader's family, that's the same as the US doing it.

Humans also require training data in math. Sure AI might require more data and more physical hardware, and its arguably violating copyright, but at the end of the day it does something that is very hard to distinguish from thinking.
