I know a naive writer whose much pushed debut disappointed. The publisher knew on launch day the booksellers were lukewarm about it. **That is not something an author can fix at scale any more than they can fix the weather**

I think based on Braverman’s definitions I’m not English. My dad is Welsh so I’m ethnically half out already, and on my mum’s side we’re descended from a Polish immigrant from 1834, a mere 192 years ago. Plus there’s a Lascelles in the tree somewhere which speaks to a dangerous continental streak.
