It's pretty interesting experiencing even the barest fraction of what it must feel like to have your country occupied by a hostile power

The history of early 19th century Egypt is pretty wild, and I think gets overshadowed by the eventual British takeover. Not only are they doing their own parallel colonization campaigns in East Africa and Sudan, they also make a pretty credible play at just overthrowing the Ottomans entirely.

I mean, it’s an incentive thing right now companies, even ones who aren’t ideologically aligned with the GOP, do believe the GOP will fuck them over for not going along and they don’t believe Dems will impose consequences for that you’ve gotta change that, executives need to think twice

ICE took two more people from my local courthouse today. The wife of one of the guys who was taken showed up shortly after. She just had surgery. She was worried about paying rent and feeding her kids. This is happening *every day* in Massachusetts. Lives are being destroyed every single day.

The elite consensus being on our side is not determinative, not least of all because it never will be. What will be determinative is how willing we are to thumb our noses at the elite consensus and save the country anyway.

I do think it's kind of a bummer that the season when things like tomatoes, eggplants, peppers, summer squash, etc., are all fresh and at their best is also the season when it's mostly hot as fuck and you don't want to cook things like stews that take a long time at the stove.

Laws don't mean shit if they're not enforced, at the point of a gun if needed. But hey, governments aren't necessarily perfectly representative of the publics who elected them. For a better understanding of the latter, we can have a look at group chats on WhatsApp or Telegram, where... oh no.
