But we have to be careful when this convo centers one case. The reason they want to dox this woman or focus on how many times her story changes (if it even does) or worry over the ruined lives of the men involved is because you can pick apart a single case. Everyone will find it in what they want.

You don’t get that sort of bravado from many others in track and field. This sport and those who follow it love hard work and humility, even at the expense of entertainment. It’s easy to understand why many athletes are far more risk-averse than Ingebrigtsen when it comes to talking with the press. Just look at the recent collective crash-out on track Twitter when Melissa Jefferson-Wooden simply said she aspires to be the greatest of all time on the Night Cap podcast. That wasn’tt exactly a radical statement from a professional athlete, and yet, all the most annoying people on the Internet had plenty critical to say about it. It’s hard out here in the comment section.

And in 2022, SCOTUS ruled on an ADA case with huge ramifications for Title IX. In Cummings v. Premier Rehab Keller, PLLC, SCOTUS ruled that even if an individual’s civil rights are violated, they cannot seek “emotional damages” from the discriminating institution.

On my first big overseas client conference, I was at a dinner seated next to a drunk client who kept trying to fondle me under the table. I was young, distressed, and had no idea what to do. I moved my legs as far away from him as I could, moving into the space of the man next to me, who then started patting my legs! The Regional Manager was a French woman who caught my eye, gestured for me to go to the bathroom and when I came back had switched chairs with me. What happed next was epic. A few minutes after I sat back down, she raised her hand with his hand captured in hers and announced loudly "Does anyone know whose hand this is? I found it in my lap." There was dead silence at the table. She threw his hand back at him and said calmly "next time I pick it up with my fork." Then she started a new conversational thread and things moved on. After the meeting she found me, gave me a hug, and said seriously "Never be afraid to make some noise. It is their shame, not yours."
