I’m an honors fellow for legal research and writing, and it’s absolutely ridiculous IMO that students are worried about having a writing sample ASAP. These firms need to calm down! What 1L has a writing sample in OCTOBER that actually indicates what the quality of work will eventually be?

Surprise surprise, DA Van Houten was lying. As many of us predicted, Jane Doe didn’t go to police to report a conscious, consensual encounter. She said she was raped. She said she was too intoxicated to get out of the situation and was “physically hit very, very hard.”

What It Feels Like at Cornell Right Now
As a professor at the Ivy League school, Kate Manne has known many, many victims. There’s a palpable feeling on campus, she writes, that this is big.

As the lead complainants codes counselor at Cornell (our office advocates for and advises complainants), in my personal opinion expulsion is all too rare. In training I was told “you can ask for expulsion but never expect to get it.” We always advise clients it is unlikely.

Cornell rarely expels students in sex assault cases | Exclusive
A third of undergraduate women say they've been sexually assaulted. But on average, Cornell reported expelling just one attacker per year.

me too was a flawed movement, and it was also less than ten years ago. the details of my experiences, and so many others, were put out into the world in the hopes that someone would give a shit less than ten years ago, and there's an eerie deja vu to watching it happen again. love to everyone

Dealing with a slew of abusive emails to the Complainant Code Counselors email address. I get that people are mad, but what is gained by clogging the inbox for the group that HELPS complainants like Jane Doe? They are making it harder for students who need our help to get in touch with us.

I do think some of the facts are getting lost: there were expulsions and suspensions in the Cornell rape case. People still seem to think the punishment was writing essays. I still think expulsions are much too rare. But most of my heat on this one is for law enforcement.

This is not only incredibly cruel, it is not due process of law. All persons in the US are entitled to due process regardless of citizenship. As always, the cruelty is the point.

Michael Tracey is actively attempting to dox Jane Doe in the Cornell 7 rape case
Michael Tracey : If you happen to know who this Cornell "Jane Doe" is, get in touch and I would be happy to publish her name and identifying information. And yes -- this is 100% permitted under the First Amendment, whatever threats or emotional blackmail people might want to deploy"Report" me for what, exactly? Save your breath, scumbag. Sorry you hate the First Amendment so much. Her identity is obviously newsworthy at this point, and I will take extreme pleasure in reporting it. (Not "doxing" -- that's a total canard)

I’m genuinely worried that he weakened her civil case with this statement out of petty fury that he’s rightfully getting heat for not pressing charges against rapists. He clearly isn’t interested in seeing her succeed and he basically called her a liar—a huge gift to the civil defense

This is why more women don't come forward, and why more rapists aren't jailed. Because mostly-male cops and prosecutors find it more believable that a 20-yr-old would want to have sex with a room full of fraternity brothers than accept she was raped. What ever happened to common fucking sense?

One of the Cornell students accused of gang rape, Scott Kretzschmar, denies it and says through his attorney that they are going to “confront” the survivor through the court system. I can already tell you that means victim-blaming, DARVO, and smears. She is going to need a lot more of our support.

I lead the office at Cornell that advocates for complainants throughout the process. This is the first I’ve ever heard that suspensions are supposed to work this way. I am not aware of any process to determine if the “danger has passed.” Suspensions come with an endpoint when first handed down.

Stories like this have, for ages, treated men's desire to harm women as a sort of background noise, a weather we just normalize and accept and try to work around. Feminism is among other things a process of denormalization.

Using AI to do a crime does not absolve you of criminality. AI is just a computer program. It's already illegal to use computers to do crimes. Even other people's computers. Furthermore, AI is unnecessarily unsafe; using it to "accidentally" commit a crime should add charges of criminal negligence.
