I think it's closer to the truth that LLMs *can* save time on *some tasks* which can be valuable *if* you monitor them and check their output. But that doesn't get you a trillion dollars so they have to squint into the middle distance and say stupid sci fi bullshit instead

I repeat. Most of the positive uses of AI are limited in scope and won't make much money relative to the cost. All of the scalable, profitable ones are malevolent. Once upon a time a government of the people would be all over this.

So the fascist comes along and tells you he can turn back the clock while keeping all the good things you like about modernity--the cars, the clothes, the trains that run on time, the movies--all as you get back that sense of being part of something larger than yourself. The Body National.

The tell is who gets called “the government”: public institutions are treated as bloated when they provide services, but invisible when they protect wealth. That’s not small government; it’s selective government.

The phrase “ethnic cleansing” appears in the first sentence of the Wikipedia definition.
Remigration is a far-right concept referring to the ethnic cleansing'"! via mass deportation of non-white minority populations, especially immigrants and sometimes including native-born citizens, to their place of racial ancestry. [21[3) Originating in Europe, the concept has since spread to the United States and Canada, where it has gained increasing prominence, and is especially popular within the Identitarian movement. 41[5] Some proponents of remigration suggest excluding some persons with non-European background from such a mass deportation, based on a varyingly defined degree of assimilation into European culture. 6]

Americans have never been angrier with one another. But polarization is not the disease—it is the response to a revanchist movement seeking to roll back sixty years of social progress.

This is all about their inability to handle dealing with other people and their emotions. I once worked for a CEO who spent all weekend writing code to monitor an employee to avoid talking to them about a concern. AI is by and for people like this.

I remember back when the Apple Newton was introduced. It was supposed to "learn" your handwriting over time but it seemed more likely it would train the user to write so it could read. I figure the same with AI - you won't teach it YOUR routine. It will teach you ITS routine.

This and the math thing in a way are good news. At the end of the day, LLMs and all their harnesses and bells and whistles still can't go beyond the distribution. They are great if you want to get to the mean. If you are out of the distribution, they can't replace you. They won't even know you.

Yeah, the easiest way to slow progress down would be to require that any model available to the public must make all of its weights public and state that there is no IP in model weights. That would mean there would be no way to make money, and the frontier would stop advancing. They'd hate that.
