Isn’t this guy our Vice President’s favorite public intellectual? I mean, I understand this isn’t Hasan Piker-level antisemitism, but “I openly endorse the views of the guy openly endorsing Hitler” seems like it merits, I dunno, a newspaper story or something

Nor is this some new-fangled idea - you'll find it back in the 1947 Truman Commission Report on Higher Education (screen-shotted below), produced by those wild-eyed idealists who had just finished ::checks notes:: the Second World War.
"The net result of the situation is that the college student is faced with a bewildering array of intensive courses from which to make up his individual program. To secure a reasonably comprehensive grasp of his major field, he must in some cases spend as much as half or more of his time in that one department. The other half he scatters among courses in other departments which, designed for future specialists in those fields, are so restricted in scope that the student can gain from them only a fragmentary view of the subject. He, therefore, leaves college unacquainted with some of the fundamental areas of human knowledge and without the integrated view of human experience that is essential both for personal balance and for social wisdom.
Today's college graduate may have gained technical or professional training in one field of work or another, but is only incidentally, if at all, made ready for performing his duties as a man, a parent, and a citizen. Too often he is "educated" in that he has acquired competence in some particular occupation, yet falls short of that human wholeness and civic conscience which the cooperative activities of citizenship require.
The failure to provide any core of unity in the essential diversity of higher education is a cause for grave concern. A society whose numbers lack a body of common experience and common knowledge is a society without a fundamental culture; it tends to disintegrate into a mere aggregation of individuals. Some community of values, ideas, and attitudes is essential as a cohesive force in this age of minute division of labor and intense conflict of special interests.
The crucial task of higher education today, therefore, is to provide a unified general education for American youth. Colleges must find the right relationship between specialized training on the one hand, aiming at a thousand different careers, and the transmission of a common cultural heritage toward a common citizenship on the other. "

The fact that every major news outlet includes vocal tics and hesitations when it’s a woman saying “like” and not when it’s a man saying “um” is itself wicked telling.

I try not to do this but just imagining the world if it was quasi public knowledge that Obama was sleeping with a little blonde woman decades his junior. It really really does seem to me that the point of Trump was to prove that the lowest white man could do the job if a black man had done it.

Just another day where White House officials say the kind of shit that would've previously kicked off a months-long debate on civility
Steven Cheung: Jon Jackoff has to be the biggest cuck loser in politics. Instead of denigrating hard working people serving their country, Jon should look deep into his soul and ask himself why he's a miserable person who hates this country. It's because he's a radical, extremist Dumocrat.

40 years ago, it was so common for men to have a beautiful house with a beautiful wife that he would frequently confuse them for another’s. Sometimes they wouldn’t even know how they had arrived at said location in a large automobile. Now the days have gone by and men struggle to achieve either.

Cecilia Vega describes what life at 60 Minutes was like under Bari Weiss, in the weeks before CBS fired her. Short version: One of the most disastrous debuts in modern journalism history. Via @oliverdarcy.bsky.social www.status.news/p/cecilia-ve...
On a separate piece about Donald
Trump's Irag War, just three weeks into the conflict, Vega said she was told to introduce the story by saying, "Who is winning the war? Iran is totally outgunned by the United States and Israel." Vega called it an "administration talking point" used by the White House as it contended it was winning the war, which continues to rage months later without an end in sight. Finally, on a third piece about SNAP benefit cuts and poverty shot in the state of West Virginia, Vega and her team opted to tell the story "through the voices of strictly residents." Vega said she deliberately avoided interviewing experts and politicians for the piece. But Vega said she was asked why she had not either interviewed J.D. Vance or spoken to an expert about his "Hillbilly Elegy" book.
The book, Vega noted, had been published a decade before her story and was about his upbringing in Ohio, not West Virginia.

Both Hillary Clinton and Marco Rubio seem to be describing Netanyahu using the same tactic 14 years apart. The difference is, it seems, the same tactic worked this time.

Hillary Clinton says when she was Secretary of State there was "constant" and "relentless" pressure by Prime Minister Netanyahu and then-Defense Minister Ehud Barak to secure
U.S. backing for a military strike against Iran.
Clinton recalled hours-long phone calls where Israeli officials used leverage tactics, frequently telling her their "planes are on the tarmac" to imply an imminent, unilateral strike.
Clinton says she would respond to pressure like that with: "Well, good luck."
The New Yorker's David Remnick asks if she felt the U.S. was being manipulated or "played" by a foreign ally that receives an enormous amount of American aid, Clinton agreed and said it happened "all the time" due to Netanyahu's intense focus on the issue.

Marco Rubio: "We knew that there was going to be an Israeli action. We knew that that would precipitate an attack against American forces, and we knew that if we didn't preemptively go after them before they launched those attacks, we would suffer higher casualties."

The American press looks even worse than normal when you see literally any alternative. The panelists on The View aren’t even good interviewers, but they easily made JD Vance worse than in any other interview since the 2024 campaign. It’s such an indictment on establishment media.
