Friendly Neighborhood Mouse @missmouse.bsky.social · 06/09/2026
Friday morning, I was gardening when I checked my phone. A request had gone out for help. For 25+ hours, ICE had been laying siege to a quiet neighborhood in Frederick, MD. Community members were afraid, some didn’t want to leave their homes. ICE vehicles seemed to be lurking on every corner.
ICE vehicle - black Nissan Maxima with plate cover - posted up in a spot that also serves as an elementary school bus stop. Another ICE vehicle, black Dodge Durango, lurking around the community. Two more ICE vehicles - black Dodge Durango and a white SUV, unclear on make, model - on a quiet residential street, being quietly creepy. Note that the white SUV has its plate covered. Yet another ICE vehicle. Black Nissan Pathfinder. They were all over the neighborhood.

To help us grow our newsletter, we’re trying out a referral program. We think this will make it easier for readers like you to share the newsletter with other community members. But we need your help to test it out!
Original artwork by Heather Hogan sharing the reward options for The Sick Times' newsletter referral campaign. Cartoon-style drawings in small boxes with white borders making them look like stamps show a thank-you note, the reward for one referral; a sticker on a water bottle, as stickers are the reward for five referrals; and a dad hat, the reward for 10 referrals. Below the stamps, there are drawings of The Sick Times' team -- Miles Griffis, Heather, and Betsy Ladyzhets, with Betsy's dog Jacko in between her and Heather. Text above those drawings note that the reward for 20 referrals is a Q&A with the team.

A Long COVID patient recently shared that their 1976 histoplasmosis infection reactivated. This reveals a massive blind spot: SARS-CoV-2 can compromise the immune system, leaving people vulnerable to opportunistic fungal infections and reactivations. 🧵 www.instagram.com/p/Dc9QeMhpXAO/
A collage that depicts a 100% imaginary Post-Viral Fungal Takeover, with the annotation’s title in white: Long COVID: Is Fungal Infection a hidden driver?
—The Upper Lung: A physical, dense mycetoma (fungal ball) occupying a cavitary structural injury left behind by COVID-19.
—The Right Lung: Pink/orange Histoplasma nodes breaking free from collapsing granulomas.
—The Left Lung (Branching): An intricate maze of Aspergillus hyphae tunneling into blood vessels.
—The Left Lung (Clustered): Budding aggregates of Candida auris subverting immune cleanup.
The core intention of this image is to visually represent the systemic puzzle of Long COVID. It illustrates the profound frustration shared by patients and researchers alike, navigating a highly heterogeneous maze of chronic symptoms. By superimposing hyper-detailed biological structures over a dark, obscured background, the collage highlights that while standard clinical testing remains in a total 'blind spot,' an intricate, highly active microenvironment is altering the patient's internal biology. The lungs act as the primary battleground where acute viral injuries transition into chronic, hidden pathological drivers.

Bottom line from the last 6 years of COVID research : If you’ve got blood vessels, you’d be wise to avoid additional infections. Now is a great time to normalize wearing a respirator. Might feel awkward at first, but every person who does makes it easier for others to follow. Be a leader. 😷

Painting created by Anthony Dare c.1964 in the art therapy studio at Netherne hospital in Surrey, where he was compelled to live. No biographical information is currently known to us about him, this is one of his four surviving works & the subject is art therapist Edward Adamson &
A dramatic downbeat painting, in style somewhere between cubism and fauvism, of a balding white man in smart suit with bow tie, head and shoulders only, looking left, with a rather worried expression.
The painting is made of large blocks of blue yellow and purple, there are almost organic shapes building up the head and shoulders, clad in their blue suit white shirt and purple tie, which have a sculptural quality.
The background is an acidic lemon yellow with blue and green stripes
