I think it’s a big problem that most of the public is totally unfamiliar w/one of the worst yet common outcomes from Covid, namely ME/CFS. I often share this Sundance doc bc I think being able to visualize the harm (as we can for, say, polio) makes it easier to understand the desire to mitigate it.

One of those newly-disabled-by-covid people is my teen, who has been in decline for 4 years now and went from honor student to dropping out of HS, no possibility of college, etc. I think most people don’t understand it’s possible to have your whole future just disappear like that from covid.

Thinking about how patriarchy sets women up to be victimized over & over. I never experienced the level of violence of most Jane Does, but an extremely run of the mill experience of sexual harassment in college left me avoiding a core friend group & really changed my social experience in college…

In so many ways we’ve gone backwards… masks extremely stigmatized & sometimes outright banned, anti-vax sentiment up, 19th century pathogens thriving, public health defunded & derided, Medicaid defunded, hospitals/schools/airports more likely to disable or kill you, & ableism worse than ever

Maybe no one is more hated than women who resist rape. I’ve come to believe that women who have been, as I was, “public survivors” have a responsibility not to flinch in these face of this hate. I have a lot of rage about that time, but I don’t have any shame.

New study suggests that raising school ventilation levels to ASHRAE 241 targets could reduce flu cases by 33% for the WHOLE POPULATION! We need clean air in schools so bad!!! www.medrxiv.org/content/10.6...
Climate-Ready Buildings: Insights from U.S. Schools in a Global Context

Climate Week NYC • Sept 23
Projected Health Impacts of Cleaner Air in NYC Schools
Geetha Jeyapragasan and Charlie Whittaker I University of California, Berkeley
We modelled the projected impact of higher levels of ventilation and filtration in NYC schools. We did this by assessing the impact of achieving a field-recognized standard for healthy indoor air (ASHRAE Standard 241), developed by the American Society for Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning, the professional association of ventilation engineers. Adopting it in schools would reduce the burden of seasonal respiratory illness and improve preparedness for future epidemics.
We developed an epidemiological modelling framework to estimate how improving building air quality affects airborne disease transmission in schools. Here, using seasonal influenza as a case study, we share results about the potential public health impact of raising ventilation such that all schools met ASHRAE 241 targets, approximately 9 equivalent air changes per hour (ACH).

Why This Matters for New York City
ALL FLU CASES
New York City operates the largest public school system in the United States, with approximately 880,000 students across 1,800 schools. A large portion of this infrastructure predates modern ventilation standards, with the average school building around 70 years old. An inspection of NYC schools i…

This is the article to share with all your healthy friends and family to help them understand what’s going on. #LongCovid #ME
To be clear: not every disability or chronic illness is caused by COVID-19. However, the runaway acceleration in the diagnoses of common post-COVID conditions like ME, POTS, and autoimmune diseases is absolutely caused by the ongoing failure to control unmitigated COVID-19. And it's why there's an apparent "trend" in these diagnoses.
