This is an underrated point, I think. It’s been asymmetrically distributed across the federal workforce but places like the FBI, they’ve fired people simply for doing the jobs assigned to them, when they happen to be redressing Republican wrongdoing. One of the most corrosive things of all this.

i had to cut it for length, but the main argument against "we need wealth taxes to lower wealth inequality" is that there's no historical evidence of wealth taxes lowering wealth inequality to any meaningful degree at any point in time anywhere in the world it's just kind of begging the question

Yes! What we’re seeing is the spread of a pervasive social norm where constant lurid expressions of misery and pessimism are de rigueur. People can’t see it because they’re part of it. But it’s obvious when you talk to groups who have every reason to be pessimistic, and they don’t have it.
