The Diocese of Salisbury is advertising the post of Vicar of The Piddle Valley, Hilton & Ansty, Cheselbourne, and Melcombe Horsey, and if I wasn’t vaguely aware of the Wyre Piddle brewery I would suspect someone of taking the, er, piddle.

Grotesquely cruel decision. And utterly dehumanising reporting by the BBC. Trans rights are human rights and access to healthcare should be entirely non negotiable.

If you would try to win by abandoning trans people (or any targeted group) you can save this “we need to win” talk; there is no “we.” I am about solidarity, and you have chosen anti-solidarity. You are not any “we” I recognize. You are the enemy I’m trying to defeat. Beating you is how my “we” wins.

1395) Golembot. Has kind of an old-school aesthetic. Friends with Dreidelbot. Fluent in Czech, Hebrew, and Yiddish. #SmallRobotsRemonstered #Halloween
A chubby robot with a roughly pear-shaped body and integrated limbs, resembling a friendly version of the traditional Jewish golem. It has a crack on its chest patched up with a curved strip of metal, bolted in place, and Hebrew lettering on its forehead: אמת which means "truth". It's smiling quite happily. Text in the top right reads, "Small Robots Remonstered" in font that resembles Hebrew script.

Today I found out that Umberto Eco crafted a version of this meme in the 1980s…
Beware the
alibi of photocopies ! Photocopies are indis-
pensable instruments. They allow you to keep with you a text you have already read in the library, and to take home a text you have not read yet. But a set of photocopies can become an alibi. A student makes hundreds of pages of photocopies and takes them home, and the manual labor he exercises in doing so gives him the impression that he possesses the work. Owning the photocopies exempts the student from actually reading them. This sort of vertigo of accumulation, a neocapitalism of information, happens to many. Defend yourself from this trap: as soon as you have the photocopy, read it and annotate it immediately. If you are not in a great hurry, do not photocopy something new before you own (that is, before you have read and annotated) the previous set of photocopies. There are many things that I do not know because I photocopied a text and then relaxed as if I had read it.

It’s the 111th anniversary today of the birth of Harry Rée, who was a teacher and conscientious objector when the Second World War broke out, and by the time it ended, when he was 31, had invented ‘blackmail sabotage’ and got a DSO, an OBE, a Croix de Guerre, and a Medaille de la Resistance

It is, today, 115 years since navy surgeon and Antarctic explorer George Murray Levick saw his first Adélie penguin, after which he wrote several pages of notes about their sexual habits, concluded “there seems to be no crime too low for these penguins”, and saw his findings suppressed for 97 years

Ah yes, perhaps the most beloved literary trope of all: the classic McMuffin
A screenshot that reads: Moore throws in a Hitchcock-style McMuffin in the shape of a secret tape recording which will reveal just who has been betraying the gangsters.
The problem is that no-one has a machine on which to play it.

Virtue signaling is good*, actually, because it signals an endorsement of virtues. Given the tremendous right-wing effort to signal and perform vice (televised executions, racist politicized raids, denigration of empathy, etc.) turns out we cannot actually take "lip service to virtue" for granted.
