I'm not really interested in Laterns for any other reason except that Damon Lindelof is involved. Lost was a cultural phenomenon, and Watchmen was as good a sequel to the comic as I could imagine. But The Leftovers? That belongs up there with the best television of the 21st century.

It makes for a great follow-up to HBO's Rome, too. Obviously not as lavish or cinematic, but the scheming and intrigue go hand in glove. And the show timelines fit together relatively neatly, with Rome concluding on Caesar Augustus' rise to power and I, Claudius picking up late into his reign.

Watched it a couple times now and I am convinced this will be remembered not just as a great horror movie but also an emblematic film of its era. Just like Kurosawa's Pulse, it understands with unnerving clarity the social disease spread by our technological nightmare.

Many folks, including myself, have treated Reacher as their guilty pleasure. But c'mon, it's released four well-plotted, well-paced seasons in four and a half years — each one channeling the pleasures of a good airport paperback — and that's an achievement that most series can't manage these days.

Putting the absurdity aside, AI video is also a nightmare for historical accuracy. It clearly constitutes digital images from movie and TV sources, not historical texts, so good luck writing those prompts. Anyway, The Odyssey is fantastic and the best theater experience I've had since Furiosa.
