The film is written, directed, and co-stars Hitoshi Ozawa, a legendary Yakuza actor who is a villain in Yakuza 0, who got his fellow legends involved. This was his passion project inspired by one of his best friends, a trans woman, and he worked with the community for representative casting.

conventional wisdom for the entire time i've been programming has always been "less code is better". the idea that we must write more code faster is ridiculous. the problem has never been rate of output

When a game studio ships a solid game, it creates TWO valuable products: 1. A solid game. 2. The team that spent years learning how to work together make a game. Because Western studios keep disbanding #2 while development cycles get longer; we will inevitably see less of #1.

It’s very simple. A reality TV host became dictator because he turned down a role for Sharknado 4 and that’s why the king of outer space, who cheats at Diablo, got to kill Africa. Now the economy is controlled by a sex cult that has something to do with Harry Potter fanfic because of robots.

This is an incredibly good point. AI created flyers waste ink like nothing else. They're so expensive to print because they all have weird shading and curves where human-created design wouldn't. It's not actually saving you money if no one can read it and it costs a fortune to print.

An AI flyer is a brown M&M test. If your event or business is cutting corners by using an AI flyer, where else are you cutting corners? What else are you cheating out on? Why should I be bothered to go somewhere you couldn't be bothered to promote with a little of your own personality?

My biggest problem with the concept of LLMs, even if they weren’t a giant plagiarism laundering machine and disaster for the environment, is that they introduce so much unpredictability into computing. I became a professional computer toucher because they do exactly what you tell them to. Not always what you wanted, but exactly what you asked for.

LLMs turn that upside down. They turn a very autistic do-what-you-say, say-what-you-mean commmunication style with the machine into a neurotypical conversation talking around the issue, but never directly addressing the substance of problem.

In any conversation I have with a person, I’m modeling their understanding of the topic at hand, trying to tailor my communication style to their needs. The same applies to programming languages and frameworks. If you work with a language the way its author intended it goes a lot easier.

But LLMs don’t have an understanding of the conversation. There is no intent. It’s just a mostly-likely-next-word generator on steroids. You’re trying to give directions to a lossily compressed copy of the entire works of human writing. There is no mind to model, and no predictability to the output.

If I wanted to spend my time communicating in a superficial, neurotypical style my autistic ass certainly wouldn’t have gone into computering. LLMs are the final act of the finance bros and capitalists wrestling modern technology away from the technically literate proletariat who built it.

there is no such thing as "age verification." All "age verification" is actually "identity verification." You can coat it in glitter and "privacy-preserving" wrapping paper. But in the end, mandating age verification means mandating surveillance be built into software and hardware. Period.

That Discord game dev hack is still going round, 4+ years later. If a friend says they or a friend are working on a game and would like feedback... Come up with a code phrase or something before that? But don't install!
A scammer has hacked a friend's discord, and asks via DM if I could help test their game. It first links to a youtube trailer (I assume, I'm not clicking that link), to make it seem real. They didn't really respond to my reply which was sus, but followed up fast with a link to where I could download it. To make it seem legit they say: 'let me know when you're on the main menu I'll send you an invite'

I've been spending a good bit of time deciphering the .cptd format from Adobe Captivate Classic courseware. Needed to refactor it this week. Happened to dig a little deeper and found out: it's basically the Adobe PDF 1.0 specification. Oops.
Fragment of the PDF 1.0 specification, explaining: "A dictionary is represented by two left angle brackets (<<), followed by a sequence of key-value pairs, followed by two right angle brackets (>>)..."

"Devolver and its board are seeking shareholder approval to delist, believing becoming a private company is in the best interests of Devolver, its employees, its partners, and its Shareholders as a whole," a spokesperson for the company told GamesIndustry.biz.

"We’ve made an announcement about this.

"The purpose is simple and positive. Being private will allow the Devolver Digital team, especially the finance, legal, and executive team, to singularly focus on the long-term health of the company and less on satisfying the requirements of the public market, which have nothing to do with being a successful game publisher."

Despite being the only tool that can do all the things it does, Adobe Illustrator has always felt "off" to me. There's so much friction between what I want to do and the sequence of steps needed to get it done. It feels like it's been needing a UI refresh for the past 20 years.

A bluesky notification reading “Tonberry followed you”, from three minutes prior. Their icon is a picture of a Tonberry from final fantasy, a weird little green dude in a brown robe with a featureless face consisting of only two yellow dot eyes. It’s holding a lantern, for being spooky, and a knife (for ending your life). It offers me the option to follow the tonberry back, which is generally not how this works, but can be useful in getting through the ARR bonus dungeon Wanderer’s Palace (Hard).
