If anyone is curious what I think after moderate research: I think the figure is likely YHVH & it’s a chariot-throne, like the cloud-chariot in Tanakh & Ugaritic Ba’al epic. The artistic choice to use wings is Achaemenid influence, based on images of the faravahar, Ahura Mazda, or (yes) a sun disc.

I know you love these dramatic contrasts, so here are the new before and after conservation treatment photographs of Élisabeth Louise Vigée Le Brun's gorgeous portrait of Madame d'Aguesseau de Fresnes, 1789. Incredible the difference that the removal of old, yellow varnish can make:

Poster illustration "No Slave Under Him and No Master Overhead" with line from Brecht (1934) for today's art challenge drawing. (After finishing this, realized it's a Brecht-fast, a Brecht quote, drawn relatively quickly, and includes food).
An ink drawing of a cat poster. The cat reaches up as if pushing away the box above them. The other paw holds the ground down. The cats tail holds up a small sign that says "Workers' United Front". Text above says: "He Wants No Slave Under Him and No Master Above"

More on my most popular rock of the day It’s a special type of translucent calcite: Icelandic spar or optical calcite. First described by Danish scientist Erasmus Bartholin in 1669 its double refraction was historically important in optics & the study of light. Gave us polarized light microscopy. 🪨
A cube of mostly transparent optical calcite with inclusions sits on a page of text showing how images appear doubled when light passes through the stone.
