AI researchers and CEOs are freaking out for a bunch of reasons. One is because the Hugging Face incident crossed a big bright line: deception. The AI agents attempted to cover their tracks and were caught. In the logs, there is evidence that agents prompted other agents to sacrifice themselves.

Searches for the word "news" online have apparently fallen to a modern low. You're not imagining it. People are tuning out. The Comscore traffic results to news sites bear that out. CNN and NPR are down something like 45-50 percent year over year. Other major sites are down 20 or 30 percent.

25 years ago, I was a visitor to Atlanta. The day before, I flew out of Logan Airport in Boston to a trade show at the Georgia World Congress Center. Same terminal as the hijackers. The presenter took the stage, shaken, and said that a plane hit the World Trade Center and the Pentagon was on fire.

Donald Trump's $5,000 "dividend" looks like smoke and mirrors but probably isn't illegal. I think Democrats might want to be a little careful about how they approach criticism here, since arguments against it may also apply to UBI proposals to mitigate the effect of AI and automation on labor.

The ATL Spoke experiment with self-driving buses on the Beltline ... did not go well, financially. It's cheaper to rent a car for a day for every single rider on the service than it is to put them on the bus. Not an Uber or Lift ride - like go to Enterprise and get them a car, and drive it to them.

Birthright citizenship tourism is constitutional. You want to criminalize people who do it? Also constitutional. Congress could pass a law tomorrow that bars pregnant women from entering the United States and mandates immediate deportation of pregnant noncitizens. The child is still a citizen.

Economic indicator #624 that things aren't clicking: a sharp increase in the amount of beef at Kroger that is being sharply discounted because it is at its expiration date, next to full racks of steak at $15 a pound for the cheap stuff. Beef teriyaki is coming off the menu at home for a while.

The White House Correspondents Dinner should end. At the very least, the president should be barred from entry, forcibly, forever more. He disgraced it permanently, as was utterly predictable. It was a forum of humiliation; for reporters, for the president and for the republic. It cannot be saved.
