Possibly the Pacific Baza was more tolerant of people as it was busy hunting frogs. I didn't even know they did that. #brisbane #birds #wildoz

Cleaning stations are a great place to hang out and watch things happen. This is a clown triggerfish (Balistoides conspicillum) getting serviced by a much smaller bluestreak cleaner wrasse (Labroides dimidiatus) #MarineLife #Wildlife 🐟🌿
Two fish at a cleaning station. The cleaner is a small cigar-shaped fish; it is white, becoming blue at the tail, with a black stripe down the length of its body.

The larger fish is black, with a yellow ring around its mouth, a white stripe across its face, and striking white patches on its belly. It also has a white bar across the tail and a yellow mottled pattern on its back. It hangs in the water with its mouth open to allow the cleaner wrasse access to its mouth and gills.Another view of the same two fish. This is taken more from the side of the larger fish so we have a better view of it, but the smaller one is just emerging from its far side and is half-hidden.

Just did some number crunching using latest (Oct 1) ECMWF seasonal data, and I must say that I've never seen such high predictive confidence in a very wet California winter. This is a truly extraordinary forecast amid a record-strength El Niño event. [Thread: please read to end.]
Model-relative sea surface temperature anomalies for November 2026–January 2027. The supplied grid is displayed without added smoothing or coastal filling. Beige marks land and gray marks missing ocean values. The main colour scale spans -2 to +10°F, with white at zero. Hot pink marks anomalies above +10°F. This map does not establish an operational ENSO category.

There are only about 20 species of whip-lash squid. Each keeps two very long tentacles tucked in sheaths on its biggest pair of arms, then unrolls them to hover head-down and fish the seafloor like flypaper. The name comes from those whip-like tentacles. 🦑 🧪 #marinelife

I sat near this green heron for the better part of an hour and watched it hunt bugs and poke around the ponds at the Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens. It thankfully tolerated my camera and me, even walking toward me on several occasions. 📷 #Nikon #Z8 + Nikkor 180-600mm 🪶 #birds #birdphotography

In little Carowline's nightmares, there were evil Owls creeping out of a dark Burrow, not making a sound. They were crawling toward her. They were coming to get her... And then, Mom softly took her in her wings, and cooed to her. "Don't worry, little chick, it was only a bad dream. Mommie's here..."
