I spent the last four months in Arizona working in Flat-tailed Horned Lizard surveys, a protected species I hadn't seen before this year but grew on me to become my favorite lizard. Awesome project, awesome animals, awesome friends to work alongside with, it was a great time. #herps 🦎

A stunning Gila Monster found earlier this month in Southwestern Arizona! I didn't think I'd see any of them this year at all, so I was extremely happy to see such a beautiful individual! These lizards are something truly special! #herps 🦎
A Gila Monster hiding under a lot of branches. This lizard is orange and black with very big scales. Venomous and protected on top of that, so no handling was done.

Lifer Chihuahuan Nightsnake found late at night during a very hot summer night. This was one of my main targets for the night but didn't have a ton of hope of finding them, and literally on my last pass I was able to find not one but two of them! Really cool little snakes! #herps 🐍

7.4 magnitude earthquake in Colombia today. Been messaging family and friends and so far everything’s goof with them but that’s really scary. Sending all the love to everyone affected by this, hoping the regions closer to the epicenter are doing okay.

Everything that is happening surrounding the Endangered Species Act is an absolute disgrace. This has been said a lot already but it’s a reminder that these politicians and billionaires don’t give a fuck about their country or their people.

Today is #WorldSnakeDay and I'm featuring my favorite venomous serpent, the Timber Rattlesnake (Crotalus horridus). Historically, this snake occupied much of the eastern US, and still thrives in protected habitat. This golden specimen is from central Indiana. #herps #snakes #NaturePhotography 🌿
An angled-down image of a rattlesnake in a wide coil among fallen leaves on the forest floor, and facing right. This is a closeup image of the snake's head and portions of the upper body - the tail and lower body are not in the image. The snake's ground color is a golden yellow, and there are dark gray chevrons on the body that start at the neck. The head is unmarked and golden yellow, as is the iris. The pupil is dark and elliptical. Leaves of brown and orange and rusty red are scattered about the snake, and dappled sunlight illuminates the snake here and there.
