Can someone please explain something to me? I have a couple of colleagues who always sign their name in emails with lower case. They are at other campuses so I don't actually know them personally. Are they doing this because that is their preferred name, or are they too lazy to hit the shift key?

Welp, I signed up to do something ridiculous again. I'm registered for the Reesor Mountain Marathon for the May 2027. It was a great event this spring so let's do it again! The 2026 route had ~1100m elevation in 40km and I think the 2027 route will have even more. raceroster.com/events/2027/...

I went for a bike ride yesterday evening with binoculars, my camera and tripod and I was successful in seeing whooping cranes for the first time in my life! They were 600m to 1km away, but I saw a bunch of them! I need to count from the photos but there were 70 or more cranes!
Large white whooping cranes in the distance across a field of wheat stubble. There are a bunch of snow geese too.

Why learn science? Because lots of things can seem like a big scary conspiracy theory when you don’t understand how the world works! Empower yourself by learning about facts and evidence and reality. As a bonus, it’ll lead to a healthier and more prosperous society for others around you.

Today's updated outlook. A developing low pressure area in western Saskatchewan will bring the potential for severe weather incluind large hail, high wind gusts, heavy downpours and a low risk for an isolated tornado as it tracks to the NE. #yegwx #abstorm #skstorm #mbstorm

Is my Google home speaker glitching or is it CBC Sask? It keeps looping back and repeating a few seconds of audio. It may not be a coincidence that it is streaming the provincial version rather than CBC Saskatoon.

Egypt was amazing. Loud, stunning, dirty, hot, dry, crowded, ancient, friendly and amazing. I'll be ok without hearing car horns ever again but what an incredible experience everything was.
Khan el khalili bazaar with sun setting over a busy (not too crowded) street lined with merchants. My feet in a kayak on the Nile River in Cairo. The city is in the background. Egyptian breakfast served at the Villa Layla hostel in Cairo where I stayed the last couple of nights. A crowded beach on an evening in Alexandria.

Ordering random foods off of the menu continues to work out pretty well for me in Egypt. Tonight's supper is molokhia with chicken and rice with a Greek salad. So good, whatever it is.
Grilled flattened chicken, pitas and a bowl of molokhia. Very tasty and large salad in a bowl with pita chips. Ubiquitous street cat looking for his share.
