John Roberts was always a hack, but the last few years have proven that he’s just not very smart. Whether he got lazy or overconfident, I don’t know, but for someone who for was for so long obsessed with managing the image of the court, he proved himself extraordinarily inept.

What a stupid, counterproductive, and pointless policy. I’m sure we spend more administering this cluster than we get back anyway. Rooting out all the draconian laws we passed to be “tough on crime” through the hysteria of the 70s-90s needs to be a priority for any remotely progressive state.
