We keep hearing how a wealth tax will make the ultra rich piss off overseas, and allegedly take jobs with them. Don't hear so much about the Govt's axing of pay equity and other policies has resulted in teachers and other essential workers leaving, taking their skills and labour with them. #nzpol

Emphatic win for Hipkins over Luxon in #TVNZ Debate. Swing voters showed that political pundits are out of touch. ACT advisor Ben Thomas said Luxon won, Harman lamented a lack of fireworks, ditto The Post staffer. Politics shouldn't be about performance but NZ media covers it like a circus #nzpol

This smug, smirking scumbag was at an LGBTQI+ debate last week in Poneke, jeering and cheering on his homophobic and transphobic NZF colleague on the panel. His presense and regular filming of others made people uncomfortable and unsafe. Not a particularly pleasant individual.

Right hates trans people - most public go "it's the right, they're nuts". So-called left join in - "Well now, what's going on, there must be an issue if they agree!" It's why the Guardian/Labour going anti-trans is, ultimately, more much more harmful than the Times/Telegraph/Tories doing it.

If you're wondering why the media will give Farrar, Williams a good old run at denying everything without being specific or proving anything, it's because Hager criticises the media for their uncritical platforming of both of them and calls them lazy which is 100% correct.
Hager also criticised the media's role, suggesting it contributed to poor transparency.

"Despite all their undeclared political machinations, both Farrar and Williams are often interviewed uncritically in the mainstream media - far more often than most genuinely independent experts and commentators.

"At the time of writing, for instance, Radio New Zealand had interviewed Farrar about 600 times since 2007, an astonishing amount of coverage considering that he is one of the least independent people available. He is often introduced with labels such as 'polling company maestro', while Williams is given labels such as 'anti-waste campaigner'. It is lazy journalism."

The "AI will kill us all" panic says everything about the dudes promoting it: genAI is already killing people through inaccuracy, encouraging violence and self-harm, and giving bad leaders false confidence to make harmful decisions But that's not a *cool* kind of "killing us all" so they don't care

Agree - that the problem appears to be the unpopularity of a person rather than the unpopularity (and cruelty) of the policies, many of which have no mandate eg the gutting of pay equity was not put up before the last election & was pushed through under urgency with no submissions etc.

If the cisgender world wants to divide athletes into two categories when the reality of sex and gender is more complex, then there's a human rights based responsibility to make reasonable accommodations so that people who don't fit neatly into these categories get to participate.

What's happening to trans rights in Britain is more chilling than what's happening in the US. In the US there's an ecosystem of zealotry. The people dismantling trans rights openly lie, not just about trans people but about a whole host of things. For them to dismantle human rights feels natural.

Given trans people are less than 1% of the population, getting it wrong 4% of the time means you are 4x as likely to misgender a cis woman than spot someone is trans. This is without accounting for the effects of hormones, surgery etc. Absolute madness from the EHRC chair. A "human rights" body.
