2/2 Perhaps a more fundamental question for the UK is what role it wants manufacturing overall to play in driving its economy. As of now, the manufacturing value-added share of the English economy is about three-quarters that of Europe.

"The recently approved tunnel under the Thames to join Kent and Essex needed a 360,000-page application. It took 16 years and £300 million for the paperwork alone: twice what Norway spent actually building the world’s longest road tunnel." A good but depressing read👇 www.thetimes.com/comment/colu...

PC Harper’s widow, Lissie Harper, has already accused the Prime Minister of “betrayal” over the announcement. “This is disgusting. I am beyond appalled”. We are unlikely to hear from the PM himself tomorrow as he is now on holiday with his family, but the fallout is difficult.

I tend to get dogpiled every time I say this but: as someone *who likes bluesky and benefits from being here* we have a problem. The network is shrinking, not growing. It's shrinking a lot: only about 1.1m people a day even like a post. This time last year it was 1.6m.
Unique daily likers as a graph over the last year. It's down from about 1.6 million a day a year ago to 1.1 million a day now.

I really don’t get why they settled, it seems like a defendable position - surely the acquisition of a degree is evidence they were educated as agreed, unless the claimants argue their degrees are meaningless and void, which seems like an odd pitch to employers?

The Valuation Office will conduct a targeted valuation exercise to identify properties above £2 million and therefore in scope. Fewer than 1% of properties in England are expected to be above the £2 million threshold. Revaluations will be conducted every five years.
