Are we on the cusp of moving beyond the levodopa challenge test to predict the best candidates and response to DBS in Parkinson's disease? We’ve long relied on the levodopa challenge to decide who’s a good candidate for deep brain stimulation but what if that test is only part of the story?

Follow this interesting study led by @bahnebahners.bsky.social and @andreashorn.org using MEG‑LFP data to investigate cortico‑subthalamic coupling in Parkinson’s disease. The study showed that the optimal DBS response network defined by fMRI operates in the high‑beta band. Happy to be part of it!

Research defined the optimal DBS response network in STN-DBS for Parkinson’s Disease in a spatial domain. Other research defined physiomarkers for DBS response locally, in a temporal domain. However, nobody has analyzed these two concepts simultaneously. Enter @bahnebahners.bsky.social 👇👇

I learned so much from a very sharp mind in this conversation. Equipped w an undergrad mathematics at Harvard, Medschool at Harvard, PhD at MIT, Terry has begun deeply thinking about dystonia and neuromodulation early on and has come up with a very unique sEEG based approach to treat tough cases.
