I always assumed that brain function had to line up with cytoarchitectonics. It turns out I was wrong. Human cortex, especially PFC, is tiled by chains of functional patches that subdivide and interlink architectonic areas into parallel processing streams. www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...

I think the theoretical limit of explainable variance in a model should be less than the product of the test-retest reliabilities of the input variables. If the explained variance in a study exceeds that value (as it often does in the psychiatric literature), the model must be overfit.

Occasionally, I'm working on a problem and realize that it just requires more cognitive steps than what my own brain can handle. Take that to the nth power - there must be problems that require more cognitive steps than our brains can collectively handle? Is brain function one of those problems?
