I continue to believe that a bike lane is only "protected" if it has steel beams anchored into concrete to keep drivers out.

"Protected" bike lane on Airport Way S at S Lucille Street fully blocked by the concrete barrier intended to protect it. Presumably knocked out of place by an errant driver.

1/2 My biking spidey senses have been working hard past 24 hours: -riding in 12th Ave paint bike lane, driver merged across the lane in front of me to illegally pull into no parking spot, but I noticed drifting & was able to slow down & go around them (another driver complimented me on my reaction!)

I don’t see much improvement for bike infrastructure, 4 parts: 1) N of 84th- shoulder disappears, no infra 2) 84th-92nd- this gets improved, narrow shoulder replaced w bike lane 3) 92nd-Paine Field Blvd- ppl already prefer existing paved sidepath 4) S of Paine Field Blvd- another gap, no shoulder

1/3 I read “Building Tradition: Pan-Asian Seattle & Life in the Residential Hotels” by Dr. Marie Rose Wong. I was impressed by the depth of stories she covered about the role & use of single room occupancy hotels in immigrant life, including those working seasonal jobs like at canneries in Alaska.

Me, watching the latest discourse on subtitles vs dubbing in non-English language movies: *laughs in anime* I prefer English subtitles for live action (dubbing gets into the uncanny valley for me), but with animated movies I prefer subtitles with occasional dubs if the English voice acting is good
