I find this quote by American A.I. researcher Timnit Gebru very relevant to the ongoing discourse on “rogue AI”: That last sentence really gets at the heart of the problem.
Text reading:

“But it’s actually the people who are building it that are the existential risks to humanity. If a bridge collapses, we don’t ever ask, ‘Was the bridge uncontrollable? Was the bridge unethical?’ And really, AI is no different than that. When we describe these systems and artifacts like they have their own agency, we’re at the very same time helping the companies market themselves. But more importantly, what we’re doing is we’re also helping them sidestep accountability.”

Given the placement of fire hydrant, stop sign, & fence, it seems like that diagonal space incl boulder & planter is public property (unless this is a private development neighborhood). That makes me wonder why they didn’t square off the corner instead of constructing 2 awkward diagonal corners

Lastly, I enjoyed seeing the new artwork at Pinehurst station by local Filipino artist Romson Regarde Bustillo; it’s titled “Dinhi Kita” which means “we are here” in Bisaya/Cebuano. I really like the overlapping prints & patterns.

I also saw a 2-way protected bike lane being installed on the east side of 5th Ave NE that goes about 2 blocks north from NE 130th St, but I don’t know any details on the project or how far it’s going to go

I checked out the ongoing NE 130th St & NE 125th St Mobility and Safety Project around Pinehurst in Seattle which is looking really good so far. It will be a 2-way protected bike lane approaching the Pinehurst station from the east

I was in salmon heaven as I attended Issaquah’s Salmon Days for the first time; they’re my favorite fish and oh so delicious! Free bike valet by @cascade.org was convenient, salmon bbq was wonderful, & at the hatchery, I got splashed at one point by a jumping salmon near the water tanks!

I continue to believe that a bike lane is only "protected" if it has steel beams anchored into concrete to keep drivers out.
"Protected" bike lane on Airport Way S at S Lucille Street fully blocked by the concrete barrier intended to protect it. Presumably knocked out of place by an errant driver.

The first author is just lying. They could easily just write, “I don’t want safer bike infrastructure because I don’t care about cyclists,” but instead they create bad faith arguments. And the second author, well, just look up the term “windshield perspective” and that explains it.

Other notes: Southcenter Blvd has an okay wide sidewalk on the north side on the east side of I-5, but the road is a mess. I don’t recommend riding in the road when it passes under I-5, too many close calls & abuse from angry drivers. I hope this is helpful for you

Bob Svercl (he/him) @bobco85.bsky.social · 19/09/2026
Option 2: right on Southcenter Blvd bike lane, bike lane ends at bottom of hill just before the underpass at I-5, so turn left onto the left side sidewalk (narrow at first, it widens to a decent width after the I-5 underpass) right using crosswalk onto the sidewalk of 66th Ave, left on Tukwila Pkwy

Option 1: right on Southcenter Blvd bike lane, left on 42nd Ave, right on 144th St (at Foster HS), down big/steep hill & cross bridge over I-5, left on 53rd Ave, zig zag, pass Tukwila Park & Ride, cross Interurban Rd, right onto Green River Trail, pass under I-405, bear right to Baker Blvd

If going from Tukwila light rail, you have 2 options (roundabout & safer vs direct & less comfortable):

Bob Svercl (he/him) @bobco85.bsky.social · 19/09/2026
First off, don’t bother trying to connect from Othello (or Rainier Beach), because the only direct connection is across Boeing Access Road, and it’s just plain dangerous. Also, Southcenter Mall has bike racks that are on the south side near the southeast parking garage
