This is a dreadful argument from Burnham. Empirically false - almost 6m people were granted settled status; about 4m are currently resident. More importantly panders to racism/xenophobia, and directly contradicts argument made in his speech about migrant contributions.

There was a section of Burnham's speech that was eerily similar to Sunak's in 2023. Will he have any more luck in answering the question?

‘Seismic’ Andy Burnham proposals already quite familiar for Scots. Right to buy abolished here 2016, free personal care 2001, comprehensives never axed, 62% Remain vote, water never privatised, PR standard. So what do Scots make of the PM’s big speech? Listen LesleyRiddoch.com/podcast

It really gives the game away when the anti trans orgs are calling the election of the neo nazi party in Germany a "glimmer of hope."
A screenshot of an online article headline from "Inspecting Gender" by Genspect. The main heading reads: "Germany: A Glimmer of Hope for Sex Realists?" Below the title, the summary text asks: "Is the victory of the AfD in Germany a dark day for democracy or a glimmer of hope for sex realists? By David Allison." The bottom metadata displays the Genspect logo, "5 hours ago," and a "Listen" audio option button. In the top right corner, there is a teal "Subscribe" button alongside a circular profile avatar.

The proposed bill does little to protect trans children from formalised conversion torture. Stella's complaint is that parents may face some scarce restrictions in meting out the torture themselves. Under the proposed legislation, they'd need to be guided in doing so by a quack.

Baffled by the complexity of this. You could go for a headline like "we're moving to an earnings lock" (although maybe that wouldn't save as much?) but instead we're keeping two-thirds of the triple lock and claiming that this will mean the other third still sort of applies?

“The plans… would then be put in Labour’s manifesto”. From reporting, this speech is just a list of things he’s not going to do for at least two and a half more years. Folk will be so scunnered of the wait by the time 2029 eventually rolls around.

If Shabana Mahmood is tough, why is she so slow to crack down on Danny Tommo and the far right?
Weeks of what looks like blatant lawbreaking have finally resulted in an arrest. But the home secretary seems happy to look elsewhere

Lots of talk of growth ahead of the Budget, as if it were a baroque puzzle. Our problem is basic. It's that we no longer support the things which facilitate growth: Europe, immigration, higher education, tax simplification, policy stability. These are all choices and could stop making them anytime.
