The incident fits a broader pattern in the discourse around 'free speech' and 'cancel culture':
[Section highlighted]
whatever comes from the top down is freedom; whatever comes from the bottom up is bullying and censorship.
[End highlight]
When Macklemore is dropped at the behest of the billionaire stadium owner Robert Kraft, it's an exercise of the freedom of businesses to 'demonstrate their values' by deciding whom to platform. But when Ed Sheeran's fans decide not to buy tickets to his performances, or even demand refunds, it's bullying, mob behaviour. Since most people are not billionaires and do not own stadiums, they can exercise meaningful power only collectively. The collective exercise of power must therefore be demonised.

#NZpol If the phrase "belongs in the fiction section" sounds familiar, yes, it's the same BS when "Dirty Politics" was released ⏬ Williams and Farrar withdrew *slightly* from speaking/ slots then — riiiiiight up until they got asked back *AGAIN AND AGAIN* to give 'insights'. Rinse BS, Repeat BS.
Two stalls set out and a crowd gathers. One stall displays "Comforting Lies", the other "Unpleasant Truths".

The former is manned by Jordan Williams of the TPU and yes, that's David Farrar, and yes, that is the pic of him dressed as Jimmy Saville, the pedo, and yes, it's weird anyone would dress up like him even as a joke, even weirder this happened *after* he was outed for being a pedo.

But then again, David may just want to feel more comfortable at those "Princess Parties" he helped oversee (VOMIT). Makes the "meat on legs" as one attendee put it easier to catch Davey?

Jordan Williams expounds and exhorts his (faux) ignorance of anything and dishes out words like "It's all lies" and other BS to the crowd.

On the other side, a lonely figure mans the "Unpleasant Truths" stall, with three of Nicky Hagers books showing: "The Hollow Men", about the then-Brash led National Party and its underhanded tactics in tandem with the Exclusive Bretheren (among others), "Dirty Politics" which covered the Key-led National government and the dirty machinations of Jordan Williams, Simon Lusk, David Farrar, Cameron Slater and others... and lastly, the latest release, "Dirty Work", featuring, again, Jordan Williams and David Farrar as more principle players this time.

And of course... the media, and assorted hangers-on, are readily publishing excuses and diversions of course, because, that's... what they do.

this is extremely funny Simon Watts made Councils meet a three month deadline, which they all did. He set the September deadline for a decision, which he has failed to do. He is now using his self imposed deadline to criticise Councils annoyed that they did their part and he isn't doing his.
In response to Little’s reaction, Watts said “I‘d suggest that we leave the political campaigning to central government politicians and local government to focus on their core tasks of delivering services for ratepayers.”

“I‘m not going to stand here and try and rush through a decision six weeks out from an election that puts at risk an enduring reform in this sector,” Watts said.

“We need to get this right.”

Back in 2014, when 'Dirty Politics' was published, David Farrar did a big number about how he must have been "hacked" or "spied on" – even implied his apartment could have been burgled, or that his staff were in danger – because Hager referenced a couple of Curia polling scripts in the book.
From Kiwiblog …

AUGUST 15, 2014 7:40AM BY DAVID FARRAR
I’ve either been hacked or spied on
I started reading more fully the Nicky Hager book yesterday, and the footnotes in the book. To my shock I realised that Hager had info in the book that could not have come from the hacking of Cameron Slater, but could only have come from my computer, my apartment or my office.

Specifically he refers to copies of two scripts used by my company, Curia Research, this year. There is absolutely no way they could have come from Cameron Slater’s computer systems, as Cameron doesn’t have them. No one has them but me and my office.

I thought about how this could have happened. The two most likely scenarios are that my computer systems have also been hacked, or that someone physically removed the scripts from my office (or possibly apartment). All of these scenarios make me feel sick, and make me worry about the security of the 100+ staff working for me.

If you're wondering why the media will give Farrar, Williams a good old run at denying everything without being specific or proving anything, it's because Hager criticises the media for their uncritical platforming of both of them and calls them lazy which is 100% correct.
Hager also criticised the media's role, suggesting it contributed to poor transparency.

"Despite all their undeclared political machinations, both Farrar and Williams are often interviewed uncritically in the mainstream media - far more often than most genuinely independent experts and commentators.

"At the time of writing, for instance, Radio New Zealand had interviewed Farrar about 600 times since 2007, an astonishing amount of coverage considering that he is one of the least independent people available. He is often introduced with labels such as 'polling company maestro', while Williams is given labels such as 'anti-waste campaigner'. It is lazy journalism."

So MBIE officials recommended spending less, but targeting the money towards local music festivals. And Louise Upston chose to spend much more, but hand it all to multinational companies and overseas artists.
They reveal MBIE’s reasoning as to why it advised the government against investing in concerts, including a lack of “wider benefit opportunities” and “no international brand visibility”, though it said many countries, including Australia and Malaysia, offer concert funds. Instead, MBIE suggested funding local music festivals with a smaller, discrete, one-off fund. This is advice which Upston also seems to have ignored; late last year, the long-running music festival Splore called it quits, saying its $240,000 funding request had been denied.
