Spent a good chunk of the afternoon moving bins and shelves out of the basement and into my shed. Tomorrow: the dozen huge bags of fabric scraps from the Murdoch Mysteries costume room, and a lot of power tools, and some chairs, and so much weird detritus left by the previous (original) owners.

The image is of a four panel comic.
The first panel shows Sarah, the protagonist, holding a red ball labeled "A SILLY MEME".
The second panel shows Sarah taking the ball and going through a door labeled "GROUP CHAT".
The third panel shows a group of women sitting together and consoling one woman in the center. The woman in the center is saying "...And that's how it happened. It's been the worst day of my life."
The fourth panel shows Sarah standing in the doorway behind them awkwardly holding the red ball.

i hope that men notice how whenever a rape story gets widespread coverage, women use it as an opportunity to vent about how fucking disgusting we think many of you are and how many have made our lives measurably worse, and take a few moments to deeply process that.

Astonishing really how ADHD-denialism so closely matches early trans-denialism (say, a decade ago, before it went mask-off eliminationist), to the point that it includes the exact same personalities, again vomiting their know-nothing opinions all over the place.

The sweater body fits me well, which isn’t what I wanted. I want big floppy sweatshirt-style for this one. So I may rip it out and do it again in a bigger size. It’s only a week’s worth of knitting.

Since menopause, I've been unable to tolerate headphones or earbuds. If I put on music or watch TV, my (almost certainly autistic) daughter gets overstimulated. Music helps and is important to me but it's not something I have much access to these days. Makes me sad.

Stories like this have, for ages, treated men's desire to harm women as a sort of background noise, a weather we just normalize and accept and try to work around. Feminism is among other things a process of denormalization.

Locking people up for using drugs will never make sense to me. The people I've known who've used drugs, in spite of the threat of severe consequences, did so bc they are not/were not okay. Locking people in dungeons traumatizes them further and makes these patterns even harder to break.

Yesterday as a reward to myself for driving around MizC and her very sweet but perfume-soaked friend on errands for six hours, I picked up a sweater’s worth of Estelle Eco Shetland Worsted in the coal colourway, and cast on for the August Sweater, a simple pullover with a mock turtleneck.
The beginning of a knitting project in dark grey yarn, on silver needles with stitch markers in different colours.

Finished all the knitting on Åsa Tricosa's Vaudeville pullover. Now I just need to darn in the ends and block it. What next? I dug out another project from one of her patterns that I started six years ago and finally decided to admit that I don't like the yarn (too much pink). There, I said it.

Hopeful that this is what our windows will do tomorrow.
A Far Side cartoon by Gary Larson, in colour. A woman in a green dress is sitting on the floor of an empty yellow room with a light wood floor. The door is open and a grandfather clock, a purple floor lamp, a red armchair with white antimacassars, and a round side table are entering. The clock, lamp, and chair all have eyes and smiling mouths. The caption is, "Well, we're back!"

I used to retell my stories from that day. I have them, of course. Everyone does. But as someone who didn’t lose anyone, or wade through the smoke, I’m particularly concerned, in this historical moment, about avoiding any sense of nostalgia about victimhood in the heart of empire.

I don’t remember whose insight this is, but it blew my mind when I first read that to understand American history you have to get that race law was designed to increase the number of enslavable people (one-drop rule) and decrease the number of claimants to indigenous land (blood quantum)
Jamelle Bouie writes: yeah this is a separate conversation but one of the things that hasn’t quite bubbled up from scholarship into mainstream thinking is that american slavery was a system centered principally on reproduction. forced birth for capital accumulation is what it was
