It’s up to the media to ascertain whether or not Luxon murdered a homeless person on a dare in 2002. That’s not appropriate if that’s the case but equally I’m sure he hasn’t done that.

With Nicky Hager's Dirty Work exposing TPU's 3W hit job I see Mike Smith is also talking about the Hollow Men doco. Good to see how we got here, the Iwi Kiwi campaign is a ringer for this year's tax one... same blueprint they are using just more emboldened with all the sloshing dark money. #NZPol

It's the govt looking at an infrastructure problem and going "hey stop using the only method you have for paying for it!" which is exactly what they've done with Local Govt and rates. What it means is, uh, less infrastructure renewal by power trusts? That's not good for anyone.

National bashing the mostly community trust owned lines companies rather than taking on the gentailers is absolutely pitch perfect nasty Nat stuff. Those lines are owned by the users, National policy would eventually see them privatised, in part by beginning privatisation of newly developed lines.

Given how tight many local elections are, arguably if you're in experimentation mode, you'd be better off starting with general elections.

🐻Iona🐻 @bewarethefish.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
I think this local elections only policy speaks volumes about how Labour views local government. Local government is the kids table, so they're ok with letting the 16 year olds sit at it.
191
🐻Iona🐻 @bewarethefish.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
Let me get this right, Labour think 16 year olds should be able to vote in local elections, but not general elections? What's the logic? If you think a 16 year old is sufficiently capable of understanding in local government elections, I fail to see why you would exclude them from general elections.
Hipkins also promised to restore election-day enrolment, something the coalition Government abolished, and said 16- and 17-year-olds would be given the right to vote in local elections
