Love that Tidal keeps finding new ways to massively suck (the album cover being censored depicts childbirth). Wholeheartedly do not recommend this dogshit platform as your Spotify alternative.

Let me get this right, Labour think 16 year olds should be able to vote in local elections, but not general elections? What's the logic? If you think a 16 year old is sufficiently capable of understanding in local government elections, I fail to see why you would exclude them from general elections.
Hipkins also promised to restore election-day enrolment, something the coalition Government abolished, and said 16- and 17-year-olds would be given the right to vote in local elections

Air Chathams says it is flying six Wellington Bays electorate candidates to the Chatham Islands on Thursday for the island's first-ever candidate debate ahead of the general election.

Unless it's Deloitte ripping the council off to the tune of several hundred thousand dollars in which case no biggie eh
Mayor Andrew Little said the council would work towards implementing the recommendations and improving council practises to provide better transparency of costs and value for money for ratepayers.

"I've been clear that under my mayoralty - when the Council organisation makes mistakes - we front up to the public, we fix those mistakes and we learn from them. That's why I asked for this review, and that's what is happening now.

And here's RNZ presenting McCallum's claims as fact. Have they verified he's using the property he bought for work purposes only? Have they confirmed that he's not staying in motels? Of course not. He's a white bloke. He's not held to the standards wāhine Māori are. www.rnz.co.nz/news/politic...
McCallum, who had been accused of buying and renting out a property in Wellington, had in reality bought a home in Paihia to use when he was travelling around his electorate.

As a result he saves the taxpayer any expense on hotel bills. He added that the house was not being rented out, so he was not benefitting in any way

Have the Labour Party been paying any attention during this current term of Parliament? This is delusional thinking.
“The Select Committee process will provide all Kiwis to with the chance to have their say. The Bill is not perfect and undoubtedly can be improved. We particularly want to make sure the proposed safety nets don’t do more harm than good,” Labour science, technology and innovation spokesperson Reuben Davidson said.

Comment on spinoff article: I think the problem is that Labour do not believe in the solutions to these problems. They still believe in neoliberalism and capitalism so are unable to offer the things that people want and would enthusiastically vote for.

I'm going to kindly assume Labour have multiple people drafting their comms material because in one FAQ they're using inclusive "anyone who is pregnant" language and the next it's back to "woman" and "families". No thought given to trans men, solo parents on their own or pregnant young people.
Anyone who is pregnant and eligible for publicly funded health services. For a scan to be covered, a referral from a GP, midwife or specialist will be required.

A woman having the two routine scans recommended in a straightforward pregnancy, at $90 each, saves $180. A woman needing five scans could currently pay up to $450 across her pregnancy. Under Labour, she pays nothing

“These are also the same people that have delivered us a series of savings that have meant we’ve got the lowest rates rise in what, six or seven years or something, so we are turning that bit of the ship around, but there are some historical decisions that suggest that there are problems in the system.

“Look, if there are failures in that supervision and in that structure, let’s find out about it because that’s the basis on which we have to make a change,” he said.

Ask any Wellington based public servant if they had the resources needed to do the jobs demanded of them by ministers under the last Labour Government 😒 If you want a well resourced public service do not waste your vote on Labour.
Labour proposed its own cuts to the public service in late 2023, when in government, to the tune of 2 percent.

Asked about how many jobs would have been lost then, Hipkins said the advice he had was "there were a lot of vacancies that would be unfilled, and that they would just disestablish those jobs, so they wouldn't have resulted in people losing their jobs".
010
🐻Iona🐻 @bewarethefish.bsky.social · 19/05/2026
Oh fuck off Chris. Those Wellington backroom public servants you treat like a dirty word are keeping the public service running despite chronic under resourcing and constant kickings. Labour pretend to support public servants while throwing thousands of us under the bus.
Speaking ahead of his party's caucus meeting on Tuesday, Hipkins said "more than half of the jobs in question are outside the Wellington region".

"So, these are frontline people working all over the country, they're social workers working with vulnerable kids and families, people working in our prisons, people working at our border, people working in the conservation estate, they are frontline jobs."

Yeah? Well I read the policy AND paid attention to the fact TOP's actions were contrary to their own policies. Anyone still treating the opportunist party as a credible voting option is either a sucker or as untrustworthy as TOP is.
With trust in our political system hitting all-time lows, it's time to build transparency back into politics, and refresh our parliamentary systems for long-term policymaking and better delivery. To strengthen our democracy and help end political gridlock, Opportunity will:

Limit political donations, build systems for full donation transparency and enforce prosecution for illegal political donations.Opportunity Party

The absolute fucking state of the Labour Party. Clearly don't want votes from fanfic readers or writers. If you still don't know what fanfiction is in 2026, maybe don't make wildly misleading references to it in Parliament eh Helen. thespinoff.co.nz/politics/01-...
Labour MP Helen White, who is in support of the bill, seemed slightly confused about the kind of online porn being discussed. “I just wanted to talk about something I’ve never heard about before, which is a form of fiction, and it’s called dark romance,” White told the House. “Those are like fan fictions, and what people are doing is they’re contributing to a story which is basically one of abduction, rape, and then turning the rapist into your lover.” There was a puzzled look from assistant speaker Maureen Pugh, who no doubt was learning about fan fiction for the first time and was getting one hell of an introduction.

I wish. All they're actually proposing is a half-baked targeted CGT to pay for three free GP visits that people won't be able to redeem if their GP is too busy to book them in.
That appears to contradict Hipkins, who this morning was asked by Newstalk ZB’s Canterbury Mornings whether the party was receptive to the group’s ideas.

“Lobby groups can argue for whatever they want. We’ve announced our tax policy, which is a simple targeted capital gains tax, and that’s as far as Labour will be going in that area.”

Labour are so close to actually committing to repealing one of this Government's dogshit laws. So close. Soooooo close. C'mon Chris. Just a little more backbone.
Jackson says he will be advising his caucus to repeal the legislation if Labour were to form the next government.

Chris Hipkins says of course they will be voting against it, but he doesn’t think it will pass before the election and if it does, if he were to be in government, it will not progress.

What pathetic little piss babies Ray Chung defending Gazley Motors promoting buffoon of a Mayor Andrew Little and his deputy Ben McNulty are. Compare and contrast with the Green councillors and Matthew Rewiti who actually recognised how meaningful the occasion was. www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/wellingto...
While previously reluctant to speak publicly on their feelings over the new office, councillors have shared their issues with the site.
Deputy Mayor Ben McNulty, did not attend, and said that getting his kids “out of bed, fed, dressed and dropped off to school is a higher priority”.
Independent councillor Nicola Young said “the building is by the officers for the officers”, and also skipped the blessing.
Also absent was fellow independent councillor Diane Calvert, who said she was unable to attend on Tuesday, but had not been planning on it anyway.
Elected members had not been involved in the project other than approving the initial funding, Calvert said, expressing her disappointment the mayor’s office did not have “the same gravitas” as the previous office in the Town Hall.
Nureddin Abdurahman, a Labour councillor, was not at the blessing either.
“Where I sit isn’t a big concern as long as I’ve got a table and a computer to do the job,” he said, but added there were “legitimate concerns about how spaces have been allocated, and they should be addressed”.
Māori Ward Labour councillor Matthew Reweti attended because the blessing was a “wonderful collision of my culture and my work”, he said.
Green Party councillor Geordie Rogers was one of the few who attended. He said mana whenua had been very generous in gifting names for the new site, and the role of a councillor was to “come to work to make decisions to the benefit of the city”.
Rebecca Matthews, a fellow Green councillor, said it was a privilege to be at the blessing, and she was “absolutely fine” with the new accommodation.
“Having the fanciest office is not my goal in life - I just hope our staff find it a good place to work and Wellingtonians find it a good place to visit their council,” Matthews said.

Laurie Foon, also a Green councillor in attendance, said it was important to attend given the level of investment made in the new site.
“The decisions made will have a multi-generational impact and [are] ther…
