Just had an unexpected visitor. A fledgling just hopped into our dining room. Cute as a button, but we have dogs so I had to chase it out. Shut the dogs indoors before lifting the little cutie onto a wall. It hopped off into a tree so I'm hoping it's parents can come down and teach it to get home.

I have written this letter to my local MP about the EHRC guidelines on single sex spaces. @nionwomen.bsky.social

As a resident in your constituency and member of the LGBTQ community, I am writing to ask you to oppose the EHRC guidelines on single-sex spaces and to do what you can to prevent them from becoming law.
I wrote to you last year following the supreme court ruling on the definition of a woman. I explained why the term
'biological woman' is scientifically illiterate and largely meaningless and explained that there would be many people excluded from society if we use strict, binary groupings to determine gender. As a reminder, I wrote:
- What does 'biological sex' mean? Is it 1. what's on your birth certificate? 2. genitals? 3. hormonal? 4. chromosomes? 5. A combination of all of these?
- If 1. will we all now have to carry our birth certificates around with us and present them every time we wish to urinate or try something on in a shop? If 2. Will we have to present our genitals for inspection? If 3. Will we have to take a 'gender test' similar to that undergone by elite athletes?
- Where will intersex people go? There are statistically as many intersex people as those who have red hair. Will cis women with naturally high testosterone be allowed to use single sex spaces? What about cis women who are post-menopausal?
I still have the same concerns, even as the gender critical lobby have apparently gained even more of a strangle-hold over public policy in the interim.

If the EHCR guidelines become law, trans people will effectively be pushed out of public life. Furthermore, it will embolden self-appointed gender-police to challenge cis women who they do not deem 'feminine' enough in public toilets and changing rooms. We have already seen this happening in the United States, where men have filmed themselves confronting and intimidating tall, muscular, short-haired or otherwise gender non-conforming women. The stated aim of this guidance is to keep men out of women's spaces, but in reality it has the opposite effect - Perverts and dangerous men who are radicalised far-right and gender critical social media content, who are unhealthily obsessed with other people's genitals and believe they can tell who is trans simply by looking, now feel entitled to harass women under the guise of 'protecting' us. It is an own goal for feminism.
As a tall cis woman, if this guidance were to be endorsed by parliament I would feel less safe.
The women who support the EHRC guidance are a very loud (and in many instances well-funded) minority. Polling consistently shows that most women support trans people's rights to use spaces which align with their true gender. Please represent us in Parliament and in your work around this issue.

Two pictures of me, over 40 years apart, at a building I've loved forever and have been lucky enough to work in. It's had a huge refurbishment, it feels the same, but also brand new and I can't wait to move back in on Monday.

Me, this afternoon, on a staircase that didn't exist the last time I was here. It's been cut in between floors, with sky lights being cut into the roof. Bringing loads of natural light in to both floors.
If you don't know me, I have blonde, messy, shoulder length hair. I wear black, large framed glasses. In this image I'm wearing a white t-shirt under a grey waistcoat. I also have a rainbow coloured lanyard around my neck.
I'm not exactly smiling, as the staircase is very functional looking, and the original design was much cooler.

A picture of me, aged around 12. I'm standing outside the building I now work in . Halifax Building Society is on block letters above my head.
I'm wearing a black and white checked shirt dress, with a cream coloured aran cardigan. I'm also wearing white daisy shoes (I wanted black) and carrying a grey coat, which I hated, that trails on the floor.
I'm smiling in this one, probably because I didnt have bills to pay.

There’s no screening for ovarian cancer and it’s really difficult to spot: you can’t squidge your ovaries in the shower to check for lumps. Also it’s very good at masquerading at other things, like IBS and diverticulitis. Please take a look at this list of symptoms - and share if you can.

Cancer of the ovary, fallopian tube or peritoneum usually causes symptoms that are similar to common non-cancerous conditions. This can make it difficult to diagnose early.
If you have any of these symptoms or get these symptoms regularly, your GP should offer you cancer tests:
• a long-lasting bloated or swollen tummy
• feeling full quickly when you eat
• loss of appetite
• pain in the lower tummy area or back
• peeing (passing urine) more often than usual
• needing to pee urgently (feeling like you cannot hold on).
Other symptoms may include:
• a change in your normal bowel function (diarrhoea or constipation)
• weight loss for no obvious reason
• unexplained or extreme tiredness (fatigue)
• vaginal bleeding after the menopause.
If you are aged 50 or older and develop symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) for the first time, you should also have tests. IBS can cause bloating and changes in bowel function. But it does not usually start after the age of 50.
