The rope gets up and twists itself around until it’s a tight ball with a couple ends sticking out. It pulls at those ends until the fibers separate. It walks into the bar and orders a shot of tequila. “HEY!! Aren’t they rope I just threw out of here?!” the bartender bellows. The rope responds:

I used to be able to muster some tiny bit of sympathy (more accurately pity) for racists: they don’t know what they’re missing, they aren’t going to flourish in the future we are creating. But I’m exhausted and angry. Keep your hands off our neighbors and their names out of your racist mouths.

Joking aside - as a kid, I used to go collect rats in traps around the city with my dad to have them tested for the plague. The plague is still around, we don’t get it because we have constant systems, public health, labs, and scientists in place keeping it at bay.

I once brought my exuberant springer spaniel to a blessing of the animals. I left the cats at home because I figured he’d be easier to manage. We sat beside a couple of women who brought two cats, just held in their arms. Those cats got a blessing but they needed an exorcism.
