Len Kasper left #Cubs TV to call #WhiteSox on radio (partially) so he could call playoff games, which local radio people get to do but local TV people don’t. There’ve been times since when people mocked that decision a bit. As of today, though, Len has called 5 White Sox playoff wins.

We all said it right away. Hell, we said it back in June. Whoever trades for Brenton Doyle, those will be the big winners of the trade deadline, and they’re ticketed for the LCS, at LEAST.

Wonderful that certain pockets of baseball pull crusty-ass Joe Maddon out his wine cave to rant and rave about how shitty today’s game is every other month or so. Good stuff. Remind me why he doesn’t have a job again?

From the incomparable @jaysonst.bsky.social: Brewers hadn’t gotten a walk-off hit when one strike from losing in any regular-season game in seven years — since a 2R single in 18th by Ryan Braun, on May 4, 2019, against the Mets. That was more than 1,100 games ago! www.nytimes.com/athletic/766...

Jackson Chourio joins rare company with a walk-off that will live on in October lore (Gift Article)
Chourio has built an impressive postseason resume at the age of 22, but Sunday's lead-flipping walk-off put his name among October legends.

The #Padres elected to carry only 11 pitchers, since Craig Stammen doesn't trust anyone else, anyway. They leaned heavily on Adrian Morejon in Game 1 and Mason Miller in Game 2. They used the same two top middle relievers in each. And none of it worked. Welp. padresmission.com/news-rumors/...

Matt always has a couple phrases per piece that I’ve scarcely heard before. “hard to keep that much heat on the plate” “plunged into swing mode” “The Ueck” lol🤣 Only thing quibble-worthy is calling the Padres the other NL “Small Market That Could” - I’d have to check payroll standings for that

There’s a documentary on Peacock called “Kill. Bury. Print.” about a very small family-run newspaper in Oklahoma that started investigating corruption in local law enforcement and eventually got local officials on tape musing about killing them. It’s very sobering. Worth a watch.
