Yes this has been the main thing that has utterly put me off the populist wing of the left, their embrace of anti-tax sloponomics. (Of course they say they are not this since they want to "tax the rich" but always so defined as to exclude most people.) Libertarians waving red flags, hate it so much.

One important finding is that in this environment the biggest near-term barrier to clean energy expansion is not cost – its permitting. Both permitting shenanigans from the Trump admin and state/utility level foot-dragging is slowing down both clean generation and transmission.

Similarly, the biggest barrier to near-term expansion of solar and other clean energy is less cost and more permitting and supporting infrastructure like transmission. Transmission in particular is a key unblocker for a high renewable grid and we are building less of it today than a decade ago.

My friend Sara posted this about the superb care her father received from with Alex Pretti Absolutely heartbreaking
Photos of Alex Pretti with Sara’s caption:

On August 16th at approximately 10:00 pm
I received a call from the ICU at the VA saying my Dad had sepsis and needed to be intubated to stay alive so Josh and I headed in. We were greeted by the kindest, most calming and warm soul who helped us understand what was happening and showed deep care for us and my Dad. He continued to show utmost patience and kindness over the next few days as my Dad remained in the ICU and we were there continually. It was Alex Pretti, the man shot today by ICE. If you see this video and don't think it's murder, I don't understand your thinking and ask you to question your heart. He was out there trying to help and protect and from the little we knew of him, it doesn't surprise me he was not afraid to be on the front lines of this horrible scene in our Minneapolis. Weeping for his family and all those at the VA who no longer get to work with him or receive his care.

We are getting to the point where white collar criminals are thinking, "why take the plea deal my high-priced lawyer negotiated when I can just bribe the President and skip jail altogether?" donmoynihan.substack.com/p/pardon-the...
The clients who can buy their access to Trump’s inner circle tend to be white collar criminals. White collar crimes are less shocking than violent crimes, but have real costs. For example, some of Gentile’s victims lost their life savings. These crimes are also incredibly difficult to prove in court, even as the rich are able to fund a legal defense beyond the reach of ordinary people. Nevertheless, many might decide a good insurance policy is to put a down-payment on a pardon. After a wealthy fraudster served two weeks of a 42 month jail sentence, one DOJ prosecutor said:

Afterward, defense attorneys are telling us they can’t get their clients to take good or reasonable plea offers because they felt they’re better off spending their money on a political donation, drawing Trump’s attention, and getting the case dismissed or going to trial and getting a pardon.

We should invest in research for low-carbon approaches to heavy industry, agriculture, chemicals, aviation, and maritime shipping. To me, this is not a question of political cowardice or of not taking climate science seriously. It's a question of taking seriously what the actual problem is.
