Frequently glossobuccalic. Knows just enough to be a danger to himself and others in a surprising number of areas. I'm not overweight, I'm underheight. "AI" is marketing hype, machine learning is the technology, copyright theft is the business model.

The UK first applied to join the EEC (as it was then) in 1961 and only finally joined in 1973, because France vetoed us joining while de Gaulle was president. If/when we reapply we could be vetoed by any one country that didn't want us back in.

This gave me a good laugh. (from @accordionguy.bsky.social 's "Saturday Picdump" of tech-related memes, cartoons, etc.)
A military execution by firing squad. The condemned person is tied to a wooden post in front of a wall. The condemned man is covered in black ink, with overspray on the wall behind him leaving a negative shadow on the wall. Ten or so feet in front of the prisoner, a large squid lays on the ground, a spray of squid ink stretching between it and the prison.

To one side, two soldiers stand. One, an officer, holds a piece of paper in his hands, looking at it closely.

“Tech is inherently political” is not just about ideology, but about power, too. Yielding technological improvements to the adversary will have predictable outcomes. I’m really worried it will lock in power centralization in a way that will be impossibly hard to reverse. It’s already happening.

The thing that worries me most lately is that many people who know that “fascism is bad, actually” have also convinced themselves that AI tools must be eschewed as fake or impure. In a self-reinforcing loop, there is relatively little AI tooling and infra by “fascism is bad” folks.

Sensors on a twin buoy out in the Atlantic Ocean send live satellite data to motors inside the museum. This makes the indoor buoy copy the exact, real-time movements of the ocean waves.

The image is of a four panel comic.
In the first panel we see Sarah, the protagonist, next to a stick figure labeled “AI”. The stick figure says, “my outputs look just like yours now.”
The second panel zooms in on Sarah’s face. Above her we see text reading “I think”.
The third panel zooms in closer on Sarah’s face. Text above her reads “you missed”.
The fourth panel shows Sarah drawing happily in a sunlit room. The text above her reads “the point”.

"I have become increasingly convinced that we are heading for a disastrous confrontation and that the 21st century will be remembered for a terrible war between mankind and goats"
Goat war: an apology
FRIDAY'S Argus featured a Your Interview with Richard Robinson.
We would like to clarify that the quote "I have become increasingly convinced that we are heading for a disastrous confrontation and that the 21st century will be remembered for a terrible war between mankind and goats" was a reader question and not a response from Mr Robinson.
The next paragraph: "People often underestimate how dangerous a goat can be - I personally know six people who have become severely injured by goats, and the annual death toll racked up by goats is over
2,000,000",
, is also a reader question and not a response from Mr Robinson.
The Argus is happy to correct this and would like to apologise for the error.
