Sometimes my wife and I like to send each other text messages as though they’re democratic fundraising messages, and I believe she has produced the jewel of the form.
, it's
and I
have some personal news to share with you.
Being a mom is one of the greatest joys of my life, and I feel deeply that we should have salad tonight
This year has been challenging in many ways, and I have immense gratitude for the kindness and support of family, community, and people like you who have continued to stand by me through everything. It means the world, and I wanted you to be among the first to know that squash is in the oven and kale is in the fridge. As many of you are aware, ve been navigating one of the most challenging periods of my day while waiting for dinner.
Facing baseless federal hunger brought on by not eating since lunch, fighting for the working kids of this country, and now caring for a mean toddler and helping him grow up in a world that isn't always easy. But it has also reminded me exactly why I do this work and who I do it for.
I will never stop working to eat dinner. I will never stop fighting for what is right, even when there is also some feta in the fridge. And I will never stop being so very thankful that you are by my side in this important work and that there is tahini in the pantry for dressing
With love and gratitude,
stop to end

Scramble for Assets
The Trump administration imposed sanctions on Lukoil a year ago, describing the move as new pressure on Mr. Putin to "stop the killing." It also created a lucrative opportunity: Lukoil was forced to sell off its sprawling portfolio of international holdings.
Investors around the world scrambled to bid on the assets, but the U.S.
government held veto power because it controlled how to enforce its sanctions.
Because of Russia's autocratic system, Mr. Putin was seen as the final decision maker in Moscow.
The bidding frenzy accelerated last November, when the Treasury

Today I learned that everyone makes $62k/yr. Whew! what a relief to learn wage gap is solved, now that we have enough "legroom." We just need more technological innovation to keep this trend going...eg, self-checkout at CVS! Yep! Drugstore shopping is going great I'm sure, no need to check on that.

A painting of an apartment building, tall warm grey with columns of small windows & balconies against a cool blue sky. The right side of the building is facing the sunset, glowing warm yellow. In front of the building a large, green, leafy tree is beginning to take shape, getting darker as it gets to the bottom. An indication of a red leafed tree is being sketched in in the foreground.

Country music--and claiming you do it don't live it or hate it--is a certain kind of provocative that naturally binds with smug and anxiety receptors in the millennial who used to read the New York Times. That's all, my Sunday is too short to stay on social media any more.

Innocence
One of the snot nosed little shits at her school had snitched to my daughter about the swords. We had been holding off telling her about them for as long as we could. I wanted to wring his neck. He showed her a picture of his older brother and his friends the principal told me. They had gotten tattoos that read las espadas. Like they were proud of it? I lied to her and said that families like ours wouldn’t ever have swords. That the things she had thought she had heard my brother saying on Christmas were just him being silly. I moved us to this school district last year to avoid this exact sort of thing. To preserve her innocence. She still hadn't even heard the news about Santa Clause. Her mother had concocted a whole game about how a lady always keeps her eyes down on the ground. Placing one foot in front of the other just so. I lost my temper with her once when she got excited about a big birdie she heard flying overhead and I regret that but it was for her own good. There were some ants rushing around on the sidewalk and I told her to focus on them. Look how hard they work I said. Just like your daddy does.

The sword situation
The sword dangling over my head had lowered a touch over night. Still not close enough that I was freaking out but I could sense its movement. I called my brother to check if there were any developments with respect to his sword and he said he could sort of make it out way up there if he squinted. I don’t know why everyone’s losing it over these swords he said. Then I called my congresswoman to ask yet again if there were any plans to tackle the sword situation as it were and the girl who answered said it was the official position of the office that the swords do not exist except in some rare foreign cases. I could tell she was reading from a script. Can you let her know that they most certainly do I said and she said that she would pass the message along and hung up. Outside some landscapers were at work trimming the neighbor’s hedges. Each of them with a gleaming blade perched inches from the back of their necks. Why didn’t they just grab it at this stage I thought. Why didn’t they just reach right up and grab it.
