I should probably keep posting this in case anyone's missed it, as it is at least one thing actively reducing stress levels atm. Obvs no obligation, people have been incredibly generous already but I would be letting Flo down if I didn't keep reposting it on her behalf www.gofundme.com/f/flo-and-rob

Had to explain to a chronic fuckwit earlier today that a PhD isn’t the ‘basic’ degree that anyone gets for going to university. Really pushed my patience, that did.

Head Over Heels! I didn’t even play it to start with, but watched my parents play it, both taking turns, and my mum mapping it on graph paper. I later got the hang of playing it. Pretty epic arcade-adventure with early elements of what we’d now call a Metroidvania. Wonderful pixel art too.
Head Over Heels (1986), the first screen/room.

Screenshot is of the Amstrad CPC version. I actually played the ZX Spectrum 48k version as a child, but the CPC version looks nicer. And is technically the ‘prime’ version of the game.

My proposal: • hard reboot, only keeping core concepts and (for merch reasons) the TARDIS. • rarely travel outside Earth; use certain British historical sites and outdoor museums for location shoots. • no Daleks; they’re boring. • total ban on “end of the universe” stories. • new, modern theme tune.

Sega’s classic arcade game has turned 40, which is all the excuse you need to take the game and its sequels out for a spin. Although some are probably best left in the garage

I feel really downbeat about this Manic Miner remake. Games should be developed with a passion, not using "AI". And it'll probably end up being another title where downloading a legitimate copy of the original online to play will be discouraged, and fair use will be restricted by IP.

Hate to go all “dead serious corner” this early, but I despair that we’ve seemingly imported the American discourse whereby a medically recognised condition cannot possibly exist because companies produce medication for that condition, and doctors earn money by specialising in that condition.

Another email in my inbox from someone I know obviously written by AI. It’s that vague, inhuman prose style, and the message being at least twice as long as it needs to be. Didn’t used to write like that. It’s like Invasion of the bloody Body Snatchers, you just don’t know who’s next to be ‘turned’.

When AI is taking the jobs of many writers and artists it’s hard to understand how this happened . I know the concept of an AI writing about a book about and AI could be seen as “fun” but it overlooks that current AI is little more than a plagiarism machine. It’s not an A.G.I as AM was written.
