One of my goals in writing this book was to get a copy in every college library so that survivors entering the Title IX system would know what they were getting into—and be able to use that knowledge however they wanted. But a lot of schools banned the book.

Today, there is still a lingering sense that expelling a rapist is a bridge too far. It’s hard to grapple with how far we’ve backslid since 2013. For a minute there, it really felt like there was widespread acceptance for the idea that schools should be safe.

I don’t know what to say about the Cornell 7 which others more learned and eloquent haven’t already. The only thing I will add is: fraternity culture as it exists on American university campuses is likely irredeemable. The reason that the ‘what works’ reform toolkit is like maybe five things that both actually work and scale is that teaching kids is actually very hard. The solutions are also extremely unsexy, mostly help kids at the margins, and aren’t particularly flattering to anyone.
