Tried a local Scottish Highland Games comp for the first time ever yesterday. Having done 3/5 of the major ones now, I can confidently say strength sports are the fucking best.

My gf just came to me with a concerned look on her face asking if I’ve ever seen a truck with “a replica of human scrotum” hanging on the back, & I just had to be like “Yeah baby, those are truck nuts. They’re around.” She was disappointed in the response.

I'm just going to keep teaching, writing, doing appearances based on what little I now about how the world could be otherwise. I'm just going to hang on to my friends and love them, support them, encourage them, while we hold each other accountable with a light touch and much compassion.

transition has been mostly DIY and community-organized since forever. when you're ready, figure out what you can offer and what you need. talk in real life, use signal, get creative, don't get caught. they can't break us in a way that matters!!!! I love you.

A reminder: a law that dehumanizes & subjugates a group of people is immoral & iniquitous. That means we have a moral imperative to break it until we don’t have to anymore, regardless of the risks or consequences.

Nikki Giovanni staunchly supported trans folks, especially trans youth. Her encouragement is a balm. “I think the transgender kids are the bravest kids right now that we see; they're as brave as my generation was in breaking down segregation.”
A white square with black text reading, “I remember in a recent interview you spoke about your support of the trans community, because you said: "I see that transgender youngsters are the ones who are helping to take planet Earth into the galaxy because we're going to run into other life forms that our gender does not matter." Can you speak about that a bit?
I think the transgender kids are the bravest kids right now that we see; they're as brave as my generation was in breaking down segregation. They're breaking down
—I don't have the word for it right now-but it's gender prejudice, and [the idea that] somebody has decided that they can tell you who you are, what your name should be, and how you should look.”A white square with black text reading, “And those youngsters are saying, "No, I can decide who I am, what my name should be." Everybody's mad at me like, You should be a girl because we've decided you're a girl. And they say, "Well, who the hell are you?" I can decide that I'm a boy. And if it makes me happy, what does it mean to you? And I can decide that my name is John. And if you don't like that my name is Geraldine, why can't you name yourself? And if the people who know you and love you— or have to talk to you, maybe they don't even love you but they have to talk to you-you can tell them, "This is my name, and I would like to be referred to in that way."A white square with black text reading, “But when we go into the galaxy, a life-form may say,
"Who are you?" Well, there's no point in talking to another life-form and [saying] "I'm a boy or a girl," because it may have no meaning. That may mean nothing to them. So what you're going to say is, "I am a life form from the third planet, from the yellow sun," therefore giving yourself an identity. You don't have an identity because you say, "I'm a boy, I'm a girl, I'm a Jew or Gentile, I'm a Catholic or Baptist." That doesn't mean anything once you get beyond the prejudices of Earth.
So yeah, I think the transgender students are really brave because they're taking a lot of flack for just wanting to be themselves and to have the right to have their own name. I think that's incredibly brave, and I
think that they're absolutely right to want to do that.
To want to own themselves.”

wondering what a lot of people on here think organizing is. it involves reaching out to people who don’t automatically share yr politics but have common concerns. workplace exploitation, cost of rent, healthcare … those are all broad places to start

Imagine losing 50 to 100 members of your community every day for over a year. How can one grasp the scale of killing and loss of life in Gaza? Beyond the murdered are the injured, missing, amputated, disabled, elderly, children, and pregnant—imagine the unimaginable suffering they endure daily.

I love how whimsical some of these strength guys get in their weekly newsletters
Screenshot of an email newsletter that says: “After coming back from England, I planted lavender. There’s something magical, at least here in Utah, about mint, lavender, and sunflowers. They look great but they also seem to thrive on our harsh extremes of weather. I keep thinking I should just exchange my lawn for mint. When I got off the plane, my mint was already about three feet tall and it still is going vertical.

My sunflowers are so tall this year. Now, as I am writing this, only one sunflower has agreed to show its face, but it won’t be long before the birds and bees descend on the flower field. I like that.

I don’t think it’s a secret that gardening and training are pretty much the same kind of thing. Oddly, people are far more patient with plants than they are their own body. Nobody plats a tiny apple tree then fires it a week later because of "no progress."”
