Non zero chance the nativist wing of the Trump coalition get this one trending and use it to cancel the H1-B program. Cue a lot of unhappy Silicon Valley fash. Can’t get rid of the Indians before the robots are ready

The core problem w/ EA today is that most of the *money* in the ecosystem has pivoted from "mosquito nets are an efficient way to fight malaria and sleeping sickness" to "quadrillions of future lives depend on me becoming a trillionaire," even if most of the people are still doing the former.

I don’t think everyone realizes how bad things are for US science: For the fiscal year that just ended, the Trump regime withheld $1.4 billion from the National Science Foundation’s research budget, which is about 1/5 of its primary research budget.

National Science Foundation Diverted $1.4 Billion in Science Funds Mandated by Congress (Gift Article)
The move, affecting about one-fifth of the National Science Foundation’s primary research budget, is the latest sign of how the White House is asserting more control over grants.

Actually how are we surviving right now? What are our nice little things we're doing for ourselves? (I'll start: here I am at the nice donut diner eating a sandwich I can not really afford, but that's for end of pay cycle Jeanne to worry about)

AI-customized media vs human-authored media is not an either/or scenario. Suno may be great at background music (lofi beats to chill etc) while listeners' attachment to Taylor/Olivia/Bruno remains stronger than ever. What matters is economics, sociology, culture, context, & marketing. Like always.

I'd also just point out that this is very much within the tradition of Oscar Micheaux, who Coogler cites as an influence and who often mislead the audience into thinking one thing only to show it was false later in the film.

After reading countless articles, watching interviews, rewatching the film several times, and reading the script, I feel that I can definitively say that Coogler did not intend the vampires in Sinners to be metaphors for cultural appropriation or assimilation.
