Astrocyte-microglia crosstalk through Hevin and Toll-like receptor signaling controls developmental thalamocortical synapse refinement
Microglia are key drivers of synapse refinement during development. Ramirez et al. show that astrocytes instruct this process through the secreted synaptogenic protein Hevin/Sparcl1. The proteolytical...

For many years, the assumption has been that cell size and function are regulated by genes and associated signaling pathways. But a new study reveals that cell size in fact hinges on metabolism—in particular, the fate of a metabolite called pyruvate. cen.acs.org/biological-c... #chemsky 🧪

Sex-specific astrocyte regulation of spinal motor circuits by Nkx6.1
Astrocytes play essential roles in functioning neuronal circuits and are regulated by regional transcription factors (TFs). Bosquez-Huerta et al. found that the TF Nkx6.1 is specifically expressed in astrocytes of the ventral spinal cord and that its deletion results in sex-specific effects on astrocyte morphology and spinal motor circuits.
