I am well aware about the number of people who seem quite happy to watch human rights be curtailed on a level not seen since before the European Convention on Human Rights was signed on the basis "better Labour than Reform", but the reality is it won't stop Reform.

Since coming to power, Labour has become the single worst government on human rights in many people's living memory. The changes they have already made to immigration/asylum, trans individuals and disabled people are already causing severe harm. Pushing further on this will only destroy more lives.

We will never reckon with the rise of the extreme right, in the UK, US or anywhere else, if we don't accept that a lot of them - most of them - are motivated by their own hatred (and the potential to monetise same) and not by the shadowy hand of Russia that conveniently absolves us of introspection.

I mean, at this point, it's fairly unambiguously paramilitarism. You've got a non-state actor using violence to further political objectives. It's flagrantly in breach of democratic principles several times over. Inaction would be the most ultimate failure of a democratic government.

How having a disability became cool
Young women, nicknamed ‘sickfluencers’, are turning chronic illness into a lifestyle trend and entrenching a culture of economic inactivity

Young women are also more likely to get caught up in “social contagion” – the spontaneous spread of behaviours or emotions previously observed by sociologists in “outbreaks” of bulimia, self-harm and transgender ideology. What may have otherwise been transitory feelings are seized upon and obsessed over until they form a central pillar of a person’s identity. A chronic-illness influencer won’t want to get “better” any more than a female-bodied transgender person would want to re-identify with their sex.

Updated 21 April 2025
Home Secretary Yvette Cooper has called the vandalism of several statues in Parliament Square, including one of women's votes campaigner Dame Millicent Fawcett, "disgraceful".Ch Supt Stuart Bell, who was leading the policing operation for the protest, said: "It is very disappointing to see damage to seven statues and property in the vicinity of the protest today.
"We support the public's right to protest but criminality like this is completely unacceptable."
A spokesperson for Women and Equalities Minister Bridget Phillipson, speaking on the damage to Dame Millicent's statue, said she "utterly condemns the appalling defacement of such an important national monument to the fight for women's rights"
"There is no excuse for this disgraceful criminal damage."
The Met confirmed it is also dealing with a number of complaints from the public about signs and images shared on social media that were reportedly displayed at the protest yesterday and "action will be taken if there are signs displayed that breach of the law"

I can’t put into words the fury this reporting fills me with. How more indignity must trans people be spoken be subjected to by our national broadcaster?
One patient, Sion Jewell, had been due to have surgery to remove their breasts and had packed to go to hospital, only to be told in a phone call 24 hours before it that it had been called off.
The 29-year-old from Anglesey, who is biologically female, had waited five years from their initial GP referrals and the surgery had been postponed twice already for mental health reasons.
The surgery would be irreversible and would mean, for example, that Jewell would not be able to breastfeed in future.

No, you should not force young people into unpaid labour because you’re frightened of asking people to pay £20 a month more in tax so that you can pay existing workers properly. No, councils shouldn’t use the unemployed as slaves because you don’t get you can’t live comfortably on Universal Credit.
