What am I supposed to do with this overwhelming rage and grief and fear I feel after Mamdani and Jon Stewart disclosed that the majority of the people I know and care for in NYC were breathing in toxic air for months...years?

I really hate to pile on here, but they are doing the same thing with Covid. The air is not safe, Covid causes damage to your immune system, brain, heart, etc, even when you have a mild infection. And they've been telling everyone for years that's it's all fine and good and we should live like Covid isn't still circulating and causing immense harm. They don't care as long as the economy is okay.

If you're uninsured and want to get vaccinated for flu, COVID, etc. call your local or state health dept or check their website. Most will have free or low cost vaccines. They will also help you sign up for medicaid or other programs that offer free or vastly discounted vaccines.

Born in Marion and raised in Fairmount, Davis turned an orange cat with a big personality into a character recognized and loved around the world.
But this costume represents more than a famous Hoosier.
The hand-painted comic panels on my skirt share messages inspired by my initiative, Captivating Confidence:
"Our differences are what make us beautiful."
"If we don't have love, we have nothing."
"Outer beauty attracts, but inner beauty captivates."
To me, true confidence is found in embracing what makes each of us different and recognizing that our greatest beauty comes from within. I am so excited to bring a little Hoosier humor, creativity and confidence to the Miss Teen USA stage tonight!

I appreciate that Dolly Parton refused to participate in "dress respectability" and, by her own account, modeled her aesthetic after a town "tramp," who she thought was beautiful. She separated aesthetics from character and understood "classiness" to be about how you treat people, not how you dress.

I know that millions are mourning and I want to say this - more than anyone I have ever known, Dolly will always be with us because she was so present, so powerful, so generous and playful that she is woven into all our lives and hearts forever. We have our memories of her, her songs, Dollywood, "9to5," the millions of books she got into the hands of children, all the iconic images that bring her to us. And they are all blessings. She had a survivor's instinct and seemed to always know just what to do, just what to say, to make things right....and then she's stick her butt out the car window and moon Kenny Roger's home. She was the voluptuous embodiment of empathy. That's something of hers she'd want us all to take with us.
To her gay and trans fans, I want you to know that she loved you. You know that without me telling you. She loved all her fans and they are legion. And you know she doesn't want y'all to mourn now. Dress up and celebrate her spirit. But first, watch the final episode of Grace and Frankie where she's an Angel, the head honcho working class angel in Heaven.
