This image has layers of different vegetation and terrain. In the foreground are green plants, about waist high that are turning to rust color, giving a mixture of green and rust. The next layer further away are all the reeds that grow right along the shore of Laguna Lake. The lake isn't visible due to the height of the vegetation. Trees dot the landscape in the background, and in the distance are the Irish Hills in San Luis Obispo. The sky is light blue with patches of white clouds. There is one lone reed growing in the foreground that creates a silhouette of its long stalk and tiny blossoms that are going to seed.

Closeup of a very large bronze foot. Since it is considered good luck to rub Gregory of Nin's left big toe, the bronze has been rubbed smooth to a lighter color and isn't as detailed as the rest of the sculpture. The sculpture was once housed in the center of Diocletian’s Palace, but is now located in the heart of Split near the city's famous Golden Gate. Artist: Ivan Meštrović.

Gregory of Nin was a bishop in the medieval Croatian capital of Nin. Today he is remembered for defying the Catholic church in Rome, which opposed his call to introduce the national language into religious services in 926 so that worshippers would better understand the word of God. The church remained adamant that all services must be delivered in Latin, with the teachings of Christ mediated through the priesthood.

The full statue of Gregory of Nin in Split Croatia, located in the heart of Split near the city's famous Golden Gate. The height is 28 feet (8.5 meters), designed in 1929 by one of Croatia’s most important artists, Ivan Meštrović.

A great blue heron is standing in the water at the edge of the lake holding a mouse in his bills. He'd holding the mouse around his neck, and the mouse is wet with his back legs/feet stretched straight out in front of himself. The heron dunked the mouse in the water several times. (At that point I left as I wasn't keen on watching it to end). The sun is shining brightly on the white, grey and black heron with the blue lake in the background and sandy beach in the foreground. It was late in the day after raining which produced a strange orangy hue that made the vegetation glow. A tree in the foreground has bright gold-orange leaves and red berries. The wet trunk and branches are black, making the orange pop and glow more. The tree produces thousands of red berries that look like cranberries. So many have fallen that the ground under the tree is nearly solid red. The berries decrease in number the further away from the trunk the berries fall, creating a pointillism transition from red to a chartreuse green lawn.

The morning sun is peaking through the branches of a huge, old oak tree whose branches reach up the hill and out of view. Oaks are protected here, so they have built a wooden foot bridge over the tree's branches to protect them and allow hikers to continue through on the trail. The bridge is brightly illuminated by the sun, as are the leaves on the vegetation. The ground is covered with fallen leaves and the sky is blue. It's a glorious morning! The exterior wall of a large warehouse-type building is made of bricks that have been painted white. The paint is dirty and peeling in some places. The brick and mortar are a bit sloppy. Above the bricks is corrugated aluminum siding that continues to the roof. One lower paned window has peeling paint, and the window has been covered with cardboard from the inside. Also on the wall are pipes, gas meters, conduits, tangled electrical wires. Another window up in the corrugated siding has what looks like artwork of cats on paper from the inside. Rocks tumble down this trail even without an earthquake. The hiking trail cuts through piles of fallen rocks with large, loose rocks on the left and the steep, rocky-gorge wall on the right. The trail indicates that the rocks in the path have been ground down to smaller sizes. Dark green vegetation grows on both sides of the trail and on the mountains in the distance. It's a cloudy day. An old, 2-story clapboard building that has dark peeling paint on one side, old and worn awnings on the front side. There are windows on the bottom floor on the side, but there are windows on both levels from the front of the building. Bare trees cast spooky shadows onto the building.

One of the oldest standing structures (built 1887) in South Pasadena, this building has served many purposes (a hotel, general store, and school – just to name a few). Many have felt strange presences throughout the building, particularly on the second floor. Considering it’s storied past, it might just be brimming with spirits.

Update: Since I took this photo in 2015 when it was known as the Meridian Iron Works, it has been restored and painted white. It now houses the South Pasadena Historical Society. Stories of being haunted still persist.
