Had one of the worst meals of my decade in Portland last night. New spot from a Top Chef alum. Gummy crudo, a crab cake with an interior reminiscent of friskies, thimblefuls of sauce accompanying the steaks for $4 a pop. Oh, and a truly heinous mussel toast that looked like it was covered in puke.

Ages ago I wrote about a big cat sanctuary outside of Eureka Springs. As the head of the facility gave me a tour she mentioned that if a tiger did that I should start backing up: they can pee a distance of eight feet.
